Would you agree to die in 5 years in return for time travel?

You get use of a time machine. You can use it for a week. Go anywhere you want. But you will die in 5 years as a result (time travel weakens your body.)

Would you do it? You're allowed to warn people of your present about the future, but can't make any changes to the past (as it will destroy the timeline you left from.)

reply

Do you get to be whatever age you want to be? Or do you go at your current age. I would do it if I was in my 70s.

reply

No, this offer is only good for now.

reply

Then no.

reply

No, it wouldn't be worth it.

reply

Hell no
The current timeline will require me for at least another 45 years😎

reply

Sure, why not, but I’m confused to your conditions...if I go back in time, I can warn others of imminent or future danger, then they themselves can plan to fight the impending perils and calamity that are ‘scheduled’ to occur, as one of your conditions states I cannot change the past....but, as an example, I don’t see why I cannot come in contact with someone from Landsberg Prison in 1924 and put a jailhouse hit on Hitler....or go back a year earlier and make sure he is killed during the Beer Hall Putsch...if anything, allow me to talk him out of writing Mein Kampf...maybe go back even further and get him some art lessons so he chooses a different career path...

Maybe I watch Back to the Future too much...

reply

Because if you change something from the past, you destroy the timeline that you existed on. You'll self destruct there and then.

reply

haha that's a fairly arbitrary rule you came up with there, you will die because time travel weakens your body. In the many years I have been a sci-fi nerd I have never heard such a concept.

So no, I'll let you keep your deadly time travel device and wait patiently for the Doctor to turn up in a nice safe TARDIS.

reply

Do you like it? I just came up with it.

reply

You my friend are a genius! Nah, it's ok I suppose, works well for this hypothetical at least.

I might do it if I was terminally ill or had large financial debts. I'd go back with a sports results book à la Biff in BTTF and have myself place some bets that would set my loved ones up for life. Then I'd die happy.

reply

I LIKE THE TIME TRAVEL WEAKENS YOUR BODY CONCEPT...YOU NEED A SCRIPT NOW.

reply

This is not fantasy island

reply

You could just go into the future and become a cyborg to prevent yourself from dying. Also while being there you could get another time machine without a time limit. Sign me up.

" You can use it for a week. Go anywhere you want. But you will die in 5 years as a result "

its not very tempting , as all the other replies have indicated , also you have a couple of rules , like u explode if u change the past ...

Would you take it Intothenight?
It sounds like you have a specific plan of action in mind....

reply

I would for sure. What if there is nuclear war in 50 years and your time travel could warn others?

reply

ah you'd go forward?
I dont think anyone actually thought thats what you meant, even though you said "go anywhere"
People instinctively think of the past when they hear "time travel movie"

so you'd go forward 50 years , find yourself in a bleak radioactive wasteland , figure out when it happened , then come back and say -in ten years Pauly Shore will be president and he'll start a war! stop him!
Although it wouldnt matter to you becasue you'll be dead in five years , and when the wars brewing in 45 years time people will long have forgotten your warning !
How would that go down? Its a back like that Stephen King film where a guy ends up trying to stop a politicain cos he's seen the future.

Also - you didnt state how many stops you can have? 1 date? 3? many?
