What's your biggest motivator to work?

Sometimes I need help being motivated. I have a list of motivators and I was wondering if you can add to it or tell me which one motivates you?

1) money
2) what money means in a positive way (what you want to buy)
3) what money means in a negative way (gotta make money to cover bills)
4) sense of accomplishment
5) you hate work so getting it over and done with ASAP motivates you

To me, number 5 is great because if I hate something I'm more likely to not daydream or get distracted and just steam through it until its done.

To earn money.

But I've discovered in lockdown that work is also good for my well being.

Yeah it can be stressful at times, and seem pointless at other times but something about it keeps my anxiety at bay. The past 3 months I've had nightmares every night and that awful creeping anxiety.

I think it's because I laugh at work and am always running about looking after customers. Now I'm just sat watching Netflix and tiktok and moving from my bed - sofa - kitchen, on repeat til I go to sleep at the end of the day.

2 weeks and I'm due back. My feet will be killing me after my first shift. I have definitely not missed that feeling!

Do you work retail?

I'm getting bored at home too. I do a bike ride every second day or so. Still getting over coronavirus and its lasting effects on my body.

Trying to be motivated to work a song I'm writing.

It's more hospitality than retail, but we are constantly walking up and down the shop and up and down stairs. I don't think of it as exercise usually but I do now that I've done nothing for 3 months. Just glad I have a job to go back to

Hope you are feeling ok now? What symptoms did you have?

reply

Still impaired sense of smell and taste. Starting to fear it’s permanent.

I can’t smell some smells that sit in the air like cigarette smoke or scented candles, but yesterday I thought I could smell that my flat mate had baked a cake but it was microwave popcorn. It didn’t smell like that.

So it’s all over the place.

Other than that, just aches in my finger joints and feet joints, and sometimes knees.

Hopefully you will feel better with time. About 2 years ago I had flu that knocked me off my feet and I lost all taste and smell. The only thing I could taste was water, only it didn't taste like water. It tasted toxic. Have been drinking it with squash ever since, which I never drunk before that 😕

reply

Oh wow, that’s terrible.
