Celebrities who turned their back on fame
Not cast out, but deliberately decided that fame was not to their liking.
The more famous at the time they turned their back the better
This might be a short list...

shareRick Moranis
shareMoranis didn't retire because he disliked fame, he retired because his wife died and he had young children to raise. He became a house-dad, and the world would be a better place if more people could afford to do the same.
Although if he really liked being famous, I suppose he could have gone back to acting when his kids were grown.
True, but he's a good example of someone who retired because there was something more important to him than fame.
shareI didn't know that.
shareAgnetha Fältskog from ABBA
shareAudrey Hepburn - she became a nun.
So far this is a odd group.
In this boat you have
Cat Stevens, Rick Moranis, Dave Chappelle, the singer from ABBA, and Audrey Hepburn.
Like a weird Gillian's Island.
Oh and Sinead O'Connor ! She became a lunatic, or always was one. I'm not sure which.
Sinéad has been certified since 87 ;)
Believe it or not though her musical output has been fairly consistent throughout her career, I don't think she ever retired. Her 2014 album 'I'm Not Bossy, I'm the Boss' is pretty magnificent actually.
But yeah, mad as a cut snake, bless her heart.
I thought that O'Connor was still trying to keep her career in music going, in the rare moments when she's stable enough to make a performance schedule.
shareJason Scott Lee. He became a farmer in Hawaii.
shareDelores Hart, actress who appeared in some fluffy sixties films, and who made a movie with Elvis. She became a nun, and I believe she's a Mother Superior now.
Grace Kelly, a.k.a. Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco.
John Deacon, bass player for Queen. Completely left public life.
