Why is MovieChat suddenly deleting so many threads and comments?

Last few days (and as far as I know) I had two cases of some moderator deleting my comments or threads without my consent.

The first time, I thought it was some isolated case. But a few days later it happened again. Is MovieChat going WOKE?

■ A thread in the General Discussion about Netflix cutting off scenes from Back to the Future 2 because they were considered politically incorrect. The thread was deleted because it was considered "political". WTF? Classic movies being edited and censored by streaming services can't be debated in the General Forum in a forum about MOVIES???

■ A comment about the problem of anti-semitism in the XIXth century, saying in a nutshell that it was a complicated situation that can't be explained with the usual 'good vs evil'. It was deleted because, I don't know, because it was considered anti-semitic? WTF?

reply

Why would the moderators need your consent to delete anything you post? You agreed to these terms when you signed up for this forum.

Maybe kukuxu is Sovereign Citizen

reply

Perhaps my favorite aspect about these people is that they file bogus lawsuits that they expect will somehow be acknowledged by the same legal system they reject as fraudulent.

reply

What the hell are you talking about? Are you nuts?

reply

Yes, but that isn't what this is about.

reply

Never forget freedom of speech doesn't apply in a privately owned forum.

reply

Why are you answering to thing I didn't say? Did you imagine those words I didn't say? Do you hear voices?

MovieChat is one of the very few forums out there which is not controlled by wokes. What I said is that I'm starting to notice a trend of control of threads or comments that weren't even extreme by any means. I don't know if wokes have reached the moderator group. If they did, and I'm wondering if that's the case, well, then MovieChat is very much done.

reply

All I'm saying is that a comment/thread can be deleted for any reason on a private forum. Frankly, when people start complaining about "woke culture" it comes off as kind of whiny. Go create your own platform if you feel your voice isn't being heard.

Padeen made a perfectly neutral and accurate comment

Nope, he didn't make a perfectly neutral an accurate comment. His comment assigned to me words I didn't say, which is the strawman fallacy, which is dishonest debate.

Not only I didn't make any complain about about freedom of expression in a private forum, as his comment implied, but I wouldn't have made it in the sense he assigned to me. I don't think private forums are due to have freedom of expression. However, I'm worried when almost each and every forum in the net has converged and is controlled by wokes, and I'm worried about them having infiltrated this forum too. Wokes are like a fucking virus.

See THIS is my main problem with your posts. [...] as always, you feel the need to attack when someone disagrees with you

I don't attack people who disagree with me. However, since I consider the deletion of reasonable threads and comments a break of the social contract between users (who must post reasonably) and moderators (who must moderate reasonably), I'm being in this particular thread and only in this particular thread much harsher than I usually am.

With those words you said, I know you're lying. What I don't know if whether you're doing it purposely or out of profound stupidity. In other threads I wouldn't call you explicitly a liar, but in this thread I'll make an exception: you're a fucking liar.

Yes, I think you just proved my point exquisitely. Thank you and have a good day.

You're full of bullshit.

What the hell is wrong with wokes? what the hell is wrong with you, guys? I've explained why your point was a lie, and you just keep repeating it as a mantra.

Damn, it's like debating with a religious fanatic, you don't listen, you just keep repeating your fucking mantra.

I have not experienced any major trouble with our mods here
I've been 'wrist slapped' 2 or 3 times but I probably had it coming

reply

I didn't have any trouble until about a week ago. That's why it's surprising finding several deletions in a row out of the blue.

reply

That is fairly odd

Don't take offense but if you are a sock or someone who has previously been banned they will certainly spank your ass

I don't engage in that stuff but the Mods have lumped me up too, it happens

reply

I suggest you carefully read the standards for posting comments and comply with them.

Maybe a history of aggressive and inflammatory posts have put you on their radar. While it might appear to some that I do, I don't go out of my way to piss people off with bizarre theories and disinformation.
Maybe the rest of the thinking world is getting sick of dealing with all this up-is-down, nothing coming from the perceived left could ever be true nonsense.
Sorry, but it's rampant on the Politics board and bleeds onto the rest when the nut jobs enter the general population.
I just hope I'm not lumped in with them because I'm so frustrated with how ugly post-Gingrich society has become.

reply

Can you explain the Netflix BTTF2 edit? I never heard abou tthis.

reply

The edit was a mistake.

“Apparently, this was a foreign version which neither director Robert Zemeckis nor I even knew existed, for some country that had a problem with the Oh La La magazine cover. I asked that the studio destroy this version.”

Gale, who co-wrote the original Back to the Future with Zemeckis and wrote the screenplays for its two sequels, also added that the issue stems from the version Universal supplied to Netflix, rather than the streaming company actively trying to alter the film.

“FYI, Netflix does not edit films — they only run the versions that are supplied to them. So they’re blameless,” he said. “You can direct your ire at Universal, but I think they will be a lot more careful in the future — and with ‘the future.'”

reply

The edit was said to be a mistake after the backlash.

reply

Show where it says that. Otherwise you are still clinging to nonsense conspiracy theories.

reply

Show where it says that

????????

I followed this topic. It wasn't discovered by Netflix. It was discovered by a youtuber, then there was a backlash, and then Netflix said it was mistake.

reply

Right. When Netflix became aware of the mistake they immediately remedied the problem. If there were other films that were edited in Netflix's library then you would have a point. But this mistake involved only one film so there is no conspiracy no matter how much you wish it was.

reply

Perhaps, or perhaps not.

What I am saying is that they changed it after the backlash, saying that it was a mistake. It could be a mistake (I'm serious, it perfectly could. Shit happens) but it could have made on purpose and then they backpedaled and said it was a mistake. There's no way to know.

reply

The edit could have been made on purpose but what would be accomplished if Netflix did that? It was an honest mistake that was fixed. There is no conspiracy. The simplest explanation is usually correct.

reply

I'm going to try something similar...let's see if it gets deleted.

I read that earlier, I think you'll have try harder to get a thread deleted.

I thought at first you were one of the mythical "Wokes" , but it became clearer further down the thread the views you put in the OP wernt your own , but some imagined ideas of a pc / woke

yet again - another false sighting of a woke.

reply

Threads don’t just get deleted for the fun of it - there must be a reason. I can’t say I’ve noticed and, nearly 7000 posts/replies in, it’s never happened to me.

reply

YOURE JUST TOO NICE AND PLEASANT...🌈☀️🌷

reply

Love you too K 😜

reply

Well, I'll let you guess the reason. The original thread in the 'General Discussion' was deleted, but you can still see the copy in the 'Politics' forum. This was the deleted thread reposted in Politics.

reply

I’ve just read the link and have no idea.

reply

You would think most users here have never had a post deleted.
