The kids these days don't understand what true legends are.

I'm having a fight on Instagram with a guy who says that Drake is the best Canadian artist of all time. Drake? Really? When I mentioned Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen he's all like' "yeah, they're great at all, but they don't have the same impact on music and talent as Drake". This guy from his picture looks about 25 and doesn't even realize that Drake isn't even as legendary as Alanis Morissette and I don't even consider her a legend. Drake hasn't even written a single song on any of his albums by himself.

These yutes are driving me crazy. They don't understand legends.

reply

I'm 25 also and I hate modern rap music. That guy is an idiot and gives millennials like me a bad name.

reply

Modern music sucks in general so it's a little harder for young people to admit that the music from their generation sucks.

reply

For Canada solo I would have to go with either Celine or shania . Groups our lady peace, rush ...

reply

The guy who does the score for the news telecasts composes better music than him.

reply

Don't forget Loreena McKennitt. She's not widely known out of the genre, but she's probably one of the most important and influential figures in modern Folk music. She became a key figure in Folk music in the early 90s, and she stayed at the top of it for the next 25 years. I can't think of a any other musician or band that has stayed at the top of that genre for that long.

EDIT Now I think about, The Chieftains in Ireland qualifies as another Folk band staying at the top for several decades. Lebanese singer Fairuz would be another case. It's very rare, though.

reply

I don't know nearly enough about the Folk scene to be able to add to this list.

reply

She's a legend and a very respected musician. In the Folk/World music scene, she's one of these very few artists that (for some reason) everybody likes.

reply

RUSH!... Is a legend.
Drake is a joke.

reply

As bad as Geddy Lee's vocals are, at least he doesn't try to hide it behind a voicebox like Drake. And he definitely makes up for it with that bass.

reply

He and the guy from Primus should get together. Dueling basses!
It's hard to believe his voice is so high. Sounds like he's strangling his own nuts lol.
Drake can't touch Rush.

reply

All you can hope to do is educate.

reply

This guy was delusional. He even started to bring up Drake's uncle inventing the bass slap as if that somehow makes Drake a legend.

reply

Screw em, let em make their own mistakes.

That's a joke. The hard part is just saying something they'll listen to.

reply

I agree with you. He just marked their generation.

Even Tom Green is a bigger legend.

reply

Drake isn't even Russell Peters.

reply

Tom Jones is a bigger legend. Hell, Tom Arnold is a bigger legend.
Who's Tom Green?

reply

My favorite comedian. Look him up.

reply

If he's a tween, let it go. You probably shouldn't argue with babies. But if this is someone 25 and over, gross. Anyone who calls a current pop singer a legend unironically hasn't heard of longevity and is not worth anyone's time.

reply

I can't argue with teens, it feels weird. This guy looked old enough. He needed to be educated.

reply

Good job;)

reply

I hope you schooled him well.

reply

He hasn't responded to my last comment since I made this post.

reply

So essentially he proved he couldn't argue and was not worth your time. But at least he may go off and do some research before making finite statements in future.

reply

Ah great, another one pissing on the younger generation.

reply

They've been pissing on the older generation for years. Laughing at old people falling, thinking their opinions are out of date, assuming they're senile, making fun of them for not knowing how to use technology...

reply

See, you're just bitter.

reply

I'm not even as old as the ones they're making fun of.
