Lysol vs Pine-Sol??
which is better??
shareMaybe Pine-Sol?
shareThe smell of pine sol is beyond overwhelming. As disinfectants go, don't go overboard.
share6 of 1, half a dozen of the other.
I use white vinegar a lot for cleaning, but for disinfecting, it's 70% isopropyl alcohol (cheap, effective, dries odourless, dries quickly), or a bleach solution.
I admire people who go the green clean and economic route. I have a slim little tome with these sorts of cleaning solutions, but as a lonely batch, never took it to heart.
shareIt makes the most sense to me. Who wants to live with the residue of a bunch of harmful chemicals, when there are better and usually cheaper, alternatives?
Don't you still have to clean your place, single or not? I'd think that slim little tome would have come in handy. And, it's never too late to learn new things :). I'm learning a lot of new stuff these days, thanks to YouTube videos.
Cat, I’m going through white vinegar by the gallons. You don’t need alcohol, or bleach for a disinfectant. Keep this under your hat...we don’t want another panic buying. Mum’s the word. Two safe ingredients used together will disinfect everything. Borax (a natural) mixed with white vinegar is all you need. I posted about these two products a few weeks back.
The white vinegar around here has dried up as much as TP, bleach, and flour. Haven't checked for Borax, but it's so easy to pour either 70% alcohol into a spray bottle, or 90% and dilute it, I'll stick with that. It evaporates very quickly, which is handy for many things.
At least I can occasionally get alcohol, not so with white vinegar. I'm guarding the last 1/4 gallon of it I have with my life, since I use it for a lot of things.
I use the mixture for laundry to sanitize my husband’s clothing; also my daughter’s who has C-diff. I wasn’t permitted to give blood due to handling his clothing without gloves! His undershirts require chlorine bleach. Then I have this she-devil black Yorkie whose laundry is separated. Also, when her accidentally on purpose messes occur, I just pour the vinegar onto the floor and use my Swiffer Jet mop.
shareSounds like a fine laundry sanitiser. I use the white vinegar as a laundry deodorant, and it's good for slightly softening fabric too (good when you've got a very sheddy dog and therefore hairy clothes). It's much better than using that stinky chemically stuff that comes on Swiffers.
shareMy mom used white vinegar for many thing. It cuts too much soap foam, helps to remove lint, add to water to cook eggs as it helps them not to crack, plus Easter egg coloring adheres better. When she poached eggs she added a little to the water. It helps to keep the white intact. Use it to set color on new garments especially blacks. Vinegar and baking soda is a great drain cleaner.

After they finished setting the floor tile in this house, I used white vinegar water, (while on my hands and knees!) to scrub the tile. I use it on my hardwood flooring. I’ve used it on rusted bolts, screws, etc.
I'm going to have to get the missus to create an account on here aren't I.
sharewe cleaned the house and it has a combo lysol and pine-sol smell about it.
shareLysol
shareI use Mr. Clean. It has a nice lemony scent, not overpowering. My favorite was the old school Mr. Clean with the "Sunshine Fresh" scent. IIRC it was a bit more orangey than lemony. I wish they'd bring it back.
