shareYes. About two miles away. Mom said she heard a plane flying very low. I was still asleep. When the first reports came in, we pictured some small errant private propeller plane. The reality of course was much more shocking.
Later I did see a train of people walking north. I don't recall if they were covered with dust, but everybody was evacuating the area. A few days later I went to take a look. It was like something out of a post-apocalyptic movie.
The saddest things (other than the fatalities, of course): people lining up everywhere to give blood, but it really wasn't needed. There was no one to donate it to. Handmade missing person posters. But what got me the biggest reaction was days later, school kid drawings posted in certain places. For example, a childish drawing of a plane hitting a building, and a childish scrawl "sorry." I just lost it.
Brisbane and Rockhampton. Both are in Queensland.
