This got me thinking, alot of films bite the dust with the next generation.
This isn't the greatest film, and some might say it deserves to die...
'Porky's' (1981) a film that probably 95% of Gen xers know about but will get furrowed brows if you mention it to most millinials.
When I was in high school, no one knew what Apocalypse Now was. And I've been out of highschool for 19 years which was closer to the date of release.

But you will see...there will be one or two movies that will well known to you and millinials but will not ring a bell for Gen Z. (I am thinking American Pie but could be wrong)
Another one that was popular with Boomers and sort of unknown to Gen X and REALLY unknown to millinials is 'Billy Jack' (1971)
I'm a movie fan and I'm aware of films from every decade. I'm not a music fanatic but I know enough to know one hit wonders and legends before my time.

15 years from now I would guess less then 10% of Gen Z will know about the film.
Well, I'll never forget it. That movie is awesome!
shareI don't think FGF is en route to oblivion, if anything quite the opposite. I've noticed it gets a boost in interest every so many years, and there's been something of a major revival for it within the past few. RLM even did a re:view on it not long ago. Nice to see it get the love it deserves.

For what it's worth, these flicks are still shown in high school film classes in my experience.
shareI disagree with the first two films. I do hear people still talk about them from time to time. But "yes" on Annie Hall and all of Woody Allen's movies. That type of comedy and the demographic it plays to (New York intellectual/Jewish) is nonexistent.

I can't speak for all millennials, tending to watch only a couple of films most weeks (a lot catching up to do). I am kind of an old soul, having more in common with previous generations and enjoy their company very much.
While streaming preserves these hidden gems in vast archives, the bombardment of choices given by this current platform may not retain as strong as a person's memory outside of physical media, leading lots of people, especially millennials, to not remember such milestones besides having family/friend favorites and traditions.
This trend may change as virtual reality or hologram simulators become much more sophisticated and is able to replicate that experience in a similar fashion.

Porkys (which someone mentioned)
Love Story
Frankie and Annette beach movies
House Party
Judy and Mickey pictures
American Pie
