Worst special effects in a theatrical release?

Cant think of anything worse than the CGI from Spawn. It quite literally looks ripped from a PS1 video game.

Some other bad ones:
I Am Legend
Jeepers Creepers 3
Escape From LA

What else?

WAS JEEPERS CREEPERS 3 IN THEATERS?

reply

Suprisingly it was, but only for like a week. I saw it on the big screen and the audience was in hysterics.

reply

I KNOW I WATCHED IT...I CANT REMEMBER A DAMN THING FROM IT THOUGH...THE FIRST ONE I SAW AT THE THEATER WITH MY MOM...THE SECOND I WATCH ON DVD WITH MY WIFE RIGHT AFTER WE MET,HALFWAY THROUGH WE HAD SEX FOR THE FIRST TIME...THAT THIRD ONE JUST ELUDES MY MEMORY THOUGH.

reply

A Sound of Thunder.

An 80 million dollar picture...you would never know.

reply

I forgot about this one! Yes the CGI is laughably awful, especially the green screen. Apparently what happened was most of the film was lost in a flood and they decided to use the pre-rendered effects to save time.

reply

The mutants in "I Am Legend" looked like they were animations from a video game! 🤣

reply

The baby in american sniper.

reply

They had two real babies on set that day, but neither one was really working, so Eastwood said something to the effect of: "Get the damn doll."

reply

He's an idiot then.

Jaws 3D.

Air Force One (1997)- great movie but the plane crash toward the end is made-for-TV level bad.

reply

True, it looks like Pilotwings 64. This just made me think of The Langoliers (1995), which I don't think had a theatrical release, but is definitely up there for worst VFX of all time.

reply

Yes! It reminded me very much of the effects in The Langoliers which was a made for television miniseries.

reply

You should edit your OP, special effects refers to practical effects. CGI is known as Visual effects.

There is a lot of really bad CGI in newer releases. It is all slopped together and rushed. King Kong still looks better than almost anything that has come out since.

reply

True, but I was kinda hoping would include all kinds of effects. Not just CGI, but also practical effects.

reply

Ah yeah

reply

The worst SFX > the best VFX

reply

Disagree, there is some incredible CGI and some downright awful SFX.
