LMAO such a real moment. The charade of the holy man vs. the persistence of the animal nature. The surface will always crack at one point or another, and that's comedy.

reply

she probably waited there for hours or days.

reply

I thought the Indian game show was funny, but not this.

reply

she is strong.

reply

And brave.

reply

😂

reply

There is no charade. He had a very human reaction. People don't like complete strangers yanking their hands and refusing to let go as they walk away. What does him being a pope have to do with that?

reply

By charade of the holy man I'm referring to the pretense of an ordinary human being posing as a somehow "holy", special figure and the tradition that has made that an institution.

The idea of a pope is absurd, both from the angle of the church's perpetuation of it and the angle of followers' veneration. Any "holy man", spiritual leader, guru, et al will always be merely human, and when reality intrudes on the upkeep of the image of exemplariness, we glimpse the fact that he too is basically an animal, and all the trimmings of holiness appear especially comical.

But the laugh isn't on the pope as a human being in this moment, and he's not wrong in his reaction. This woman grabbing at the guy like a caged rhesus monkey is emblematic of the most delusional and idiotic caliber of blind veneration, condensed into one society-shatteringly childish move that sets the whole panoramic view of the situation upon the comedy stage.

reply

i do agree about the blind veneration. i never understood it.

reply

As a venn diagram, one circle labeled "not being completely off your got damn gourd", and another labeled "waiting all day to see/touch/kiss the feet of the pope" are on either side of the paper.

reply

Great job on your verbosity--including the extra pompous adverb/ adjective preceding every noun/ verb. As if you speak this way in everyday life.

reply

LOL I am very pedantic.

reply

What, no adverb preceding "LOL"?

reply

q u i x o t i c

reply

"Quixotically LOL"

reply

Is this a parody thread from the Indian game show thread ("How can she slap?") I made?

reply

no

reply

It's the Holy Slap. That woman will recieve grace for the rest of her life now. Whether she wants it or not.

reply

😊

reply

She was being a jerk, but so was he.

😎

reply

The Kung-fu grip is strong with that one.

reply

I'm not at all a fan of the pope, but he was right to slap her. He's a busy guy who's got better things to do do and as you can see on the video, he allowed people to still touch him as he walked away. I have no idea why this woman thought she had the right to jerk an old man back like that. She was acting like a child, so he treated her as one. No doubt he was also scared, since popes have been a target of attacks before.

reply

He was probably was a little fearful of the reason she was holding on to him as well as it just being a natural human reaction to want to release yourself from someone grabbing you.

She looked genuinely hurt and surprised though lol. It sounded like she was talking at him in Asian, not sure why she thought he would understand her.

reply

She looked a little pissed off. I don't think she's completely right in the head.

reply

I'm Asian but I don't understand a word she said, she was probably talking in European.

reply

What was she yelling at him?

reply

It sounded like a foreign language.

reply

I was wondering also.

reply

Not a good look but the woman was out of line. The Pope is an old man so maybe she hurt him when she yanked on his arm like that.

reply

I agree on both counts.
