song covers better than the original?

Which song covers do you prefer over the original?

For me:

Marilyn Manson - Sweet Dreams Are Made of These
Siousxie and the Banshees - Dear Prudence
Madonna - Fever
Elvira - Burning Up
Madonna - American Pie (I'm probably gonna get castrated for this one)
R. Kelly - National Anthem (guilty pleasure)

Any cover that Michael Jackson ever did.

reply

Any cover of any Bob Dylan song.

Every cover done by Peter Paul and Mary, and by Annie Lennox.

Madonna though? Really?! She should’ve been banished for covering those songs.

I never got the hate for Madge. Okay, she's pretty awful now, but most of her work from the 80's and 90's I thought was good.

reply

I was never a fan of hers but I respect her as an 80s icon. She was definitely a big part of why the 80s was what it was. I just wish she would’ve stayed in her lane. Madonna covering American Pie is as blasphemous as Hilary Duff covering My Generation.

I love Madonna's versions of American Pie and Fever very much too. Her American Pie wouldn't be a huge worldwide superhit for nothing

My choices:

Tina Turner - The Best
Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You
Whitney Houston - For the Love of You
Geri Halliwell - It's Raining Men
Celine Dion - The Power of Goodbye
Celine Dion - I Drove All Night
Madonna - Love Don't Live Here Anymore
Madonna - I Want You
Johnny Cash - Hurt
No Doubt - It's My Life
Taylor Dayne - Original Sin
Laura Branigan - Gloria
Laura Branigan - Turn the Beat Around
Laura Branigan - Moonlight on Water
A-ha - Crying In the Rain
Sandra - Hiroshima
Sandra - Nights In White Satin
Sandra - Everlasting Love
Sandra - Such a Shame
Sandra - Silent Running
Cher - Walking in Memphis
Ace of Base - All That She Wants
Ace of Base - Cruel Summer
Cascada - Everytime We Touch

Hurt wasn't an original song by Johnny Cash??

reply
