I love Scorsese, but I completely disagree with him. Marvel and other superhero movies are definitely cinema, and some of them are quite good.
shareCinema means the science and art of motion picture making so he is incorrect. He's an all time great director and he can think what he wants. But to paraphrase the boss of Marvel, the superhero movies have billion dollar grosses and pack theaters with excited fans

I politely disagree atomicgirl
If they are shooting and putting film in the can it is 'cinema'
Too many movie snobs 'pshaw' blockbuster movies in favor of artsy-fartsy type pictures...I like them all but I'm growing tired of movie fans that trash very good, enjoyable and exciting movies that are deemed 'lowbrow'
The Meg for instance was a ridiculously silly movie, but it was made to entertain and it sure did
Sometimes I enjoy a big silly thrill with lots of explosions but just as often I love a small, quiet film about people doing normal things
It's ALL cinema, I must disagree with you on this point
Just had a look through his filmography and I don't see a lot of high concept themes there either. And no I am not a comic book/Marvel fan either.
shareI avoid him and marvel.
shareYou don't like his 70s movies?
shareI love "Taxi Driver", but I give the most credit to the writer (and a good director), Paul Schrader, who included every detail of the movie, as opposed to an outline... And I give the rest of the credit to Robert De Niro.
And he's made about 20 movies. I wouldn't even consider him a Top 50 director, and I could easily name better ones.
I don't even like Taxi Driver. Goodfellas is ok but that would have been good anyway.
shareI know where heโs coming from. The Marvel movies donโt take any chances.
shareFuck that.
Cheesy popular entertainment has been the primary focus of the film industry since the days of D.W. Griffith! Art films or message films have always been the afterthought, and that's something Scorscese probably doesnt want go admit, even to himself
Old man syndrome.
