Is Father's Day a thing in the US?
It's Father's Day today in Australia and all it does is depress the shit outta me when I think of my dear old man who passed away a few years ago.

shareFirstly, sorry for your loss. My father walked out when I was born, so Father’s Day held no significance to me. That’s all changed now I’ve got a 5 year old daughter.
The next Father’s Day in The USA, Canada, UK and several other countries is 21/06/2020.
Sorry to hear about your dad running out on you. Makes me grateful for mine. I'm sure you're a wonderful dad to your daughter.
shareThanks, unfortunately my mother wasn't much better (she abandoned me when I was 10). Ironically, they are both a massive influence on me as a parent, as I am determined to be nothing like them. My daughter is one cool kid (but then again I'm biased).
shareYes, we have Father's Day in the U.S.
It occurs on the third Sunday in June (Mother's Day is the second Sunday in May).
My Dad passed away on Father's Day 13 years ago, six days shy of his 90th birthday.
Yes, it's a thing here, too, but in June. Sorry about your dad; know that's tough. Lost mine yes ago, and still miss him.
shareYes, Father's Day is the third Sunday in June here in the US, but does not get as much attention as Mother's Day does (which is the second Sunday in May). From experience (I owned a gift store for 24 years) I can tell you it's because it falls during the high school graduations, retirement parties and most popular month for weddings, so dads do get ignored. I used to sell men's grooming products in my store (expensive shaving sets, colognes, etc.) and those were popular - especially among the 'first time dads' who were in their 20s and 30s. After their first Father's Day, they were kind of forgotten.
shareSo sorry about your dad, Sunny. I lost my dad a dozen years ago and I still miss him. He was a father to my three kids too, since my ex chose to be an absent father while they were growing up. My dad stepped in as the positive male influence in their lives, especially with my two sons, taking them camping, fishing, etc. - all the things I couldn't handle. Dad was around in both good times and bad, and I'm forever thankful and grateful for having had him as a father.
shareOur Father's Day is in June, just a month after Mother's Day. It's one of those holidays that varies in meaning for everyone in the U.S. For some people, it's a day to spend time with dad, maybe go fishing or camping, get him presents and a card, telling how much you love him. For the stores, it's an opportunity to have sales. And for some people, it's one of those minor holidays that doesn't register much, particularly for those who have lost their dad, or didn't grow up with one, for whatever reason.
