I would like to recommend Killer Fish (1979) starring Lee Majors and the beautiful Karen Black! Stolen Diamonds, tropical location, typhoon destroying model boats, piranhas, and funky 70’s music. I love it!
Some that I've found easily on youtube and Amazon Prime:
Cannibal Holocaust
Ark of the Sun God
Anthropophagus
Burial Ground
The Beyond
City of the Living Dead
The New York Ripper
Torso
The House by the Cemetery
A Bay of Blood
Quite a few Italian mystery/crime films are pretty easy to find as well
I came across Ark of the Sun God on a David Warbeck marathon. I really enjoy everything he’s in and my favorites so far are The Last Hunter and Tiger Joe.
Revenant totally blew me away. I really did not expect that to be so good. I FELT like I was really there feeling the elements, the cold, the guts of that dead horse on naked flesh lol.
Another one I consider to be kindof a sister movie to Revenant is SERAPHIM FALLS. That movie rocked, also. I enjoyed the Pierce Brosnan character's resilience and resourcefulness, and his raw PRIMAL will to live. Truly, that movie touched me on a deep level.
i was recently quite surprised by long weekend (1978). it's an australian horror film about a feuding couple who take a wilderness vacation hoping to decompress and overcome their issue together, but as the suppressed discord bubbles to the surface and is transferred into acts of disrespect for nature, from everyday nonchalance to animal cruelty, the environment begins to take revenge.
the horror element is played very subtly, in such a way that natural karma increasingly verges on supernaturalism, while the agony of the relationship is grounded and at the forefront. the score, which i found to be as unique, iconic and gorgeous as it gets, interestingly does much of the heightening of a horror atmosphere, with its often atonal plasticine "horror synths" jigsawed into lush orchestration, creating what feels like a juxtaposition against a film that would, for the most part, be much more of a serious drama on its own.
there are several decisions in the filmmaking i'm not entirely sure what to make of, but there's something mysteriously special about it that's kept it coming back to mind.
i'd recommend it to people who enjoyed andrzej zulawski's possession (1981) and such.
i felt bad for her too.
& i feel a genuine admiration for treadwell, wish i had that kind of bravery & willingness to shrug off the shackles of the world. yet also recognize that he was reckless & preposterous & undeniably a kook.
Total kook for sure
10 men wouldn't stand a chance against one of those bears😳
We have a few smaller (200-400 pound) Black Bears around here on occasion and it's best to get out of their way
...a half ton grizzly?!?
Treadwell was a misguided fool!
one of my high school friends was almost killed by a black bear one summer while he was working on geological camp. bears are no joke. they want to kill you!
i actually just got together with him for breakfast this past week, coincidentally enough. he still occasionally has nightmares about it 27 or so years later.
in fact, ethan nicolle has written the authoritative guide outlining the many ways bears would like to kill you!
Scary!
Even a 'small' 200 pounder could shred you...they get into the neighbor's berry patch once in awhile here...
We get the hell out of their way
I was at my Father-in-Law's condo development about a month ago in Naples, Florida and being a dopey city kid I went outside late at night for a smoke and a beer on more than a few occasions...
One sunny day I saw an old man in the parking lot who was struggling with some heavy packages in his car so I bustled over to give him a hand...he told me the area was loaded with Pumas, Gators and Palm Tree Rats...AND I was a damned fool for casually smoking so close to the canals late at night
He introduced himself as Tony from New Jersey...
My Father-in-Law later informed me that Tony was a mob guy, built half of Manhattan and took a liking to me for being helpful...
Reviews weren't good but I enjoyed it very much. The scenes were all beautifully shot (a feat because most of the movie is in a dark cave.) And it's based on true story so the outcome was of course predictable. But even if it's not the plot was pretty generic anyway.
