I hereby declare the 1980s as the absolute worst decade for music and movies.

The 80s had some classic movies: Back to the Future, Die Hard, The Breakfast Club. They also had some classic albums: Michael Jackson's "Thriller", U2's "The Josua Tree", Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the U.S.A." None of these are enough to save the utterly abysmal decade knows as the '80s.

It's the most dated decade. Who thought synthesizers in music was going to be a good idea? Those awful drum machines weren't pleasant on the ear either. How about those weird lasers you would see in music videos.

80% of the movies had such a boring feel to them with music completely out of place. Gunshots in movies all sounded the same and didn't sound like gunshots at all. Every actor playing a cop had a mustache and were all "loose cannons".

The '80s were not kind to us.

You are the edgiest edgelord of all edgelords and will save us from whatever is popular.

It's just my opinion. Not trying to be edgy. I legitimately hate the 80s.

I actually like the 80s for movies and music. It's not all great but it was a very imaginative time. I think 80s movies have aged well, whereas 90s, which was in the infancy of CGI, has movies that look very dated by today's standards. The same can be said for a lot of the 2000s movies. CGI ages very badly when modern video games outdo the graphics.

As for music, I find a lot of it very upbeat and I like darker themes to my music. It was great at the time however.

One thing I like about 80s movies is that they took chances on young actors. Now dudes late 30s and over are still the "young hollywood" because studios won't take chances on young actors anymore. Look at Tom Cruise, a star at 19. Eddie Murphy, a huge hollywood movie 'Beverly Hills Cop' at 22.

I like how Hollywood took risks back then. The 80s were when people dreamed big dreams and did them.

I'll give the 80s one thing: it had its identity. We can immediately spot the decade in both music and movies.

the 80s were a decade of adventure and optimism
who cares if fashions and colours got a bit wacky?
its all part of the "we are building a modern future , our way!" vibe

out with the old , in with the new!

It was a decade of regression. After all the revolutionary leaps and bounds forward the cinema and music made in the 60s and 70s, the 80s were a slap in the face to that ground-breaking adventurism. Thank god at least people woke up in the 90s and spit that garbage out of their cultural mouths.

Music today has no melody, its just a electronic beat machine
Can you actually hum a song produced in the past 10 years

The 1980's were gay just as the 2010's are.

I pretty much agree with you. In the 80s the movies got stupid and music got corporate. Yeah, there were exceptions, but you really needed to make an effort to sift through the crap to find the gems.

What's funny, though (and kind of demoralizing), is I think that is how the 10s (teens) that we're in the last year of right now are going to be thought of, too.

If there was one thing that really sucked in the 80s it was the introduction of AIDS. Nowdays apparently they can control the virus well enough with modern treatments to the point where the virus cannot be detected but in the early 80s before they even knew what caused it it was terrifying. I remember watching an AIDS patient in a television interview in the early 80s and it was horrible to see what the disease did to him.

2000s weren’t that great either, especially for music.
