What are you all listening to?
I've got Tom Petty going here
The guy was a boss!
You?
Speaking of Petty, I just discovered he covered this song. He must have liked Lucinda Williams
I think it's one of those I-hate & love-you-so-much-I-love/hate-you songs.

She's got a nice voice
A very bluesy sound
williams' car wheels on a gravel road is one of maybe 3 or 4 albums that i'd say are pretty much perfect from beginning to end.
shareI have that album, but on the early comp I got from a friend, I would "religiously" listen to the same three song sequence -- Like A Rose, Change The Locks, and Passionate Kisses. A perfect triad.
Saw LW open for Dylan and Van Morrison back in the day. Great night it was.
i'm a big fan of her series of albums from the s/t (which includes those tracks) to car wheels... all of them are great.
funnily enough, change the locks is one of the few songs on any of those albums that i...don't quite love. i know petty covered it, and lots of people think it's great, but it's never quite clicked with me. but everything else she did in that period was pretty much gold to me.
A friend gave me what I think is a comp or maybe her S/T, but I would always key in on Like A Rose/Changed The Locks/Passionate Kisses. Every night I was in the mood I'd listen to them in succession once, maybe twice, maybe tracking back to start over just to make sure I was really into the groove.
And Locks is a Rocker, so I don't want to post some drippy song like A Krauss "When You Say Nothing," even if I binged on it years ago like movie butter popcorn.
People might think I'm ... um ... you know ... um -- "that way."
ah, that's definitely her self-titled album from 1988. a fantastic album from start to finish. i prefer the rough rock guitar sound of car wheels, but i'm not gonna argue with anyone who says this is her finest hour. it is absolutely chock-full of great tracks.
if your friend gave you one of the re-releases, it probably has the radio sessions & live disc as well.
i love her version of sunday from the radio session. i'm gonna add that as a reply to shogun so it will go to the bottom of the thread.
I have Car Wheels as well. Had a friend who made decent reproductions of released Discs, just for the fun of it, and for some reason he was on the Lucinda train.
Maybe the hottest time of her career, I saw her open for a Dylan / Van Morrison show back around when Car Wheels was new. Great show, all three groups played great in a great old barn that might as well have been a high school gymnasium these days.
Here's an old fave from the Way Back Machine
Edgar Winter- Frankenstein. Something tells me you've heard this before.

Oh yes, hundreds of times I'm sure
Still funky and mind blowing musicianship
It's almost like Jazz but with Hard Rock attitude.
Edgar is not much appreciated but he was a butt kicker.
This features the singer Jerry LaCroix, but also shows EW was happy to let other people shine when He could hold the stage as well as anyone (ymmv)
