Movie characters who seemed almost surreal or supernatural

Two come to mind:

The Intruder (1962) - the Adam Cramer character played by William Shatner seemed out of this world. The movie is a drama but was directed by Roger Corman so anything is possible.

The Hitcher (1986) - John Ryder played by Rutger Hauer also seems to have some supernatural powers. The movie is classified as a thriller.

Can you think of any others?

Holy Man (1998) - Eddie Murphy is a wandering mystic/philosopher called "G" who meets up with Jeff Goldblum's troubled home shopping network executive and decides to help him out by joining the network as an on-air host. Hijinks ensue. By the end, it's all but said outright that "G" is God.

I was going to offer Mr. Roarke from Fantasy Island, then I realized you were only asking about movies.

Then I began to wonder: How is it that they never made a FI movie?

Then I googled it and it turns out that a FI movie is in the works now:

who will play Tattoo??

reply

I don’t know. Peter Dinklage did a brilliant job of playing Herve Villechaize in My Dinner with Herve, so maybe he would be interested.

That's awesome you said John Ryder! I was literally about to respond to your question with that and of course you pick Ryder. I felt like he had that Jason Voorhees power in seemingly being able to be anywhere anytime.

reply

I agree

Vinnie Jones got shot in the teeth and still beat everyone up in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

Clint Eastwood as The Preacher in Pale Rider 1985

reply

Yeah, I always assumed he was a ghost or something in this one

reply

he got shot in the chest, internal bleeding causing blood in mouth.... still pretty badass / borderline supernatural though

reply

It was over the top for sure
Fun movie though!

reply

He got shot 6 times!?!
yes, in one sitting!

that 'sitting' line cracks me up , I dont know if it translates outside England

Sam Elliott as The Stranger in The Big Lebowski (1998).

There is a movie called Funny Games with Naomi Watts and there is a scene where it seems to go unexpectedly into the surreal.

reply

a weird movie all around.

The strangers in "The Strangers" (2008)

Vince Vaughn in Brawl in the Cell 99. He beat up a car. A frickin' car. With bare hands!

reply

I have not seen this movie, heard it was really violent which I don't mind.

reply

It's wacky violence, like those on Mortal Kombat game.
