Actors who almost always play themselves

Adam Sandler.

I don't know about Sandler. This doesn't mean I think he's a good actor but to me always playing yourself is basically seeming like the same person in every role. I've heard this said about Jennifer Aniston for example.

If Sandler was always playing himself I'd expect him to always play a character like his one in Grown Ups or The Wedding Singer. But for better or worse (okay pretty much always worse) we get performances like The Water Boy, Little Nicky, That's My Boy, and (ugh) Jack and Jill.

Ive got a good not many would get. Bill Patton. He was the other coach opposite Denzel's character in Remember The Titans. He was in Armageddon. Mothman Prophecies. Been in a bunch of stuff. He always plays the same guy. And always at some point in his movies he does the blank stare as the camera moves into his face, lol.

Clint Eastwood

Spencer Tracy, but he was an excellent actor. I suppose that means he proofs the rule :)

reply

Yes, he was. And you're right - off the top of my head I can't think of a role that broke his mold.
