Finnish NHL player gets $135,000 speeding ticket

Rasmus Ristolainen plays for the Buffalo Sabres and makes about $5 million a year. In Finland speeding tickets are based on income. Another reason to stay out of Europe.

It's easy to cry for the poor little rich guy, but speed limits are disproportionately used against the unconnected. How many times did he speed and get away with it?

reply

laws should be applied uniformly.

reply

Thats exactly how fines should be handled. Good for them!

reply

an extra $50,000 if they have red hair.

reply

Or $50,000,000

reply

Makes sense. To someone who is wealthy a two hundred dollar ticket wouldn't sting.

reply

👍 That was my thought. Make it hurt, otherwise there's no incentive to obey the laws.

reply

that's how communism starts

reply

Well, I don't know if I agree with this, but I can understand that a 3k-ish ticket, definitely wouldn't be a reason for him not to speed.

A Man has to give away around 2? percent of his yearly income because he chooses he drives twice the limit. I don't think that would be too unfair of a scenario.

reply

hmm , 135k is 2.7% of 5mil

So if I get caught speeding with my £20k income , id get fined £540 (if in Finland)
Here in the UK it'd probly be about $100 fixed penalty
maybe its a sliding scale , bigger % for bigger incomes

reply

i think thats fair

reply

not at all
