What are the most depressing movies you've ever seen?

Not sad, but depressing. The ones you love even though you felt like crap after watching it.

Here's a few:

Cries & Whispers (1972)
Happiness (1998)
Ordet (1955)
Amour (2012)

I can't say fiction leaves me depressed. Something like Le Château de Ma Mère leaves me a bit teary-eyed because the very sad ending to an otherwise upbeat movie actually happened in real life. Documentaries are more depressing, like the ones about 9/11 or The Bridge or Three Identical Strangers.

i was actually just coming here to edit my post to mention how depressed united 93 made me.
i really don't know why i watched it, & i'll never watch it again.
i just don't want to relive that day any more than i already have to.

“Black Hawk Down” Heart wrenching!
“We Were Soldiers”
“Band of Brothers”
“Pacific”
“Flight 93” We on the outside looking in at an event which tore at our hearts. For those of you who lived it, especially our first responders I have such great empathy. The world grieved for awhile, came together in unity...now the hate is back. A few weeks ago I saw an antifa thug berating a women whose husband perished on 9/11. His response to her when informed “Good!”

I ask myself why them? What fate put them there, but not me. I may not have known anyone personally, but I did know some from tv.

I never have and never will watch “Schindler’s List”. Man’s inhumanity to man is too much for me to bear.
