If you could time travel for one day, where and when?

This is not the form of time travel where you wake up in your younger body. It will be you, as you are now, in the past, or future.

You get to walk around for one day, see what you want to see. You must not attempt to change history!

So, name your date, and name your location. Your travels will be confined within one city or two.

Early America. Maybe mid-late 1600's.

Being able to kill Karl Marx would be nice.

I'd travel 200 years into the future, current place and just see what's up. See if humans are still around on earth.

reply

Interesting. I suppose the first thought it to see a family member you have not met before. Another thought is to go meet someone famous from the past.

Personal; I would go back to see my father who passed away when I was 2.
Other; Go into future say 500 years and see if humanity is still around or whether they have destroyed themselves. Quite frankly the way the world is going I don't see much hope for humanity in the long run.

Honestly, there are so many historical dates like Jesus' crucifixtion, WWI and WWII, seeing Beethoven create his works. But ultimately I would choose going back to when I was 12-14 years old, because those were my happiest times and I'd take a camera because I don't have enough pictures or video of that time.

reply

That would be such a nice thing to do. Of course, a mobile (with charger) is a must. I have replied in other thread about time-travel and mentioned few things about my childhood/teenage years. They were indeed one of the happiest times of my life.

reply

One of my biggest regrets is not documenting enough stuff back then. Those are years I'll never get back.

reply

I don't know about you but I didn't have digital gadgets during my younger days to document anything. I didn't even have normal camera. I would have loved to document some of the people who I still think of to this day. Indeed no one will get those years backa and I yearn to relive them at least once again.

reply

I get that...There are some people I really miss..My father and grandmother being prime.
Very happy days.

I was born in the 80s and grew up in the 90s. If I was growing up now in the digital age, I would have been snapping pictures like crazy. Back then being a kid I would have had to spend so much money getting pictures developed, money I didn't have.

reply

Back before digital there was some pressure to get the photo right because you didn't have umpteen chances to keep taking it. It was too expensive to spend a whole roll of film for one or two pictures. You took two or three and hoped at least one turned out well when you got them developed. And you had to hope you got them back. We had a historic snowstorm back in the early 80s and we took quite a few pictures around the neighborhood. Of course, that's the roll that the photo shop lost. 😠

reply

Yeah. Now we do "insurance shots". Take a few in case the first one doesn't look too good.

Petrograd, November 7, 1917.

There aren't a whole lot of days that encompass a decisive turning point in world history, but there are some, and that was one of them. So that would be my personal tourism time travel trip.

For a more practical purpose, someone else talked about stealing some souvenirs during their brief visit to the past. In that user's case, they wanted souvenirs from Hitler's bunker. If I could go back and steal souvenirs from the past, I'd visit ancient Rome (some random date, preferably at the height of the empire), head into a library and grab as many scrolls as I could possibly transport, in order to significantly boost our knowledge of those times. I don't think that qualifies as changing history; it would only change the present, so it doesn't break your rule.

Another candidate for the same purpose would be the homeland of the Mayans before the Spaniards burned all their libraries to eliminate their non-Christian culture. Imagine how much more could be known about pre-colonial America if some of those documents survived.

I'd go back in time and step on a butterfly, you know, just to see....

reply

Hahahaha. Very good. Perhaps, you already did as I would not have found that comment funny, you killer you. ;-)

reply

Ahhhh, he gets it.

The thing is, there’s no way of knowing if I’ve done it or not because I could keep altering time in an infinite number of ways and all you would know is how it is now, after any alteration.

Ok, head hurting now. Time for another drink. Sláinte!

reply

I have been known to 'get' things from time to time. ;-)
