The greatest animal performances in film and television...

I go with Clyde the Orangutan in 'Every Which Way but Loose'

Who is your favorite film animal?

reply

Does Godzilla count? The way they got him to stomp on all those Japanese skyscrapers.

reply

I would say he counts
Yes, the stomping on Tokyo while he was saving Tokyo were the best parts lol!

reply

Fatty Arbuckle's dog Luke was a pretty impressive stunt dog.

reply

So obscure...you couldn't just say The Black Stallion and be done with it?
Now I have to go to Youtube you pesky Lady!

reply

Look him up, he was a cool dog!

reply

I just did but I found several different dogs in the clips
They all seemed to be Terriers, good dogs but a bit hyper, I had a couple and they can tear the house apart and attack every animal they meet!

Wow...I just watched funny stuff from 100 years ago!
Very cool:)

reply

Fatty got a raw deal.

reply

I read a little about it and decided to read no further😳

reply

I'm inclined to believe he's innocent, but who knows. It certainly destroyed his career.

reply

The dog in Hondo (1953) was the son of the famous Lassie.

reply

Did not know that👍

reply

Dogs have sons? I'll bet they also have mistresses on the side and don't care the age of the female he's having sex with.

reply

Bart the Bear in The Great Outdoors (1988) and The Edge (1997). Great Performances 👍

reply

9 and a half feet
1500 pounds!!!

RIP Bart:(

reply

Yep may he rest easy, I'm sure his son is in the acting game now.

reply

😆

reply

I haven't heard of those two, unless The Bear was the American title to one of them. Heard it was excellent, and Bart deserved an award for his outstanding performance. Go, Bart! 🐻

reply

There was a TV show called Grizzly Adams. I wonder if Bart also was the star here?
I've heard that actual Grizzlies and Polars, as opposed to Black Bears, are much stronger and meaner and difficult to train. Don't know if it's true, but we could ask Tim Treadwell.
... oh, no we can't.

reply

I vaguely remember Grizzly Adams, but suspect Bart would have been a mere twinkle in his parents' eye when that came out.

Tim 😔

reply

You might be right. Maybe the same trainer? We are here talking about great animal acts, but it's the trainer that should get the credit.

reply

Grizzly Adams was Bozo the Bear. I was coming here to mention him. Almost made 40 years. Born in 1960 and died in 1999.

reply

I remember Grizzly Adams:)
Fun show

Nearly 40 years seems a great run for a bear

reply

Right turn Clyde!

reply

That's the spirit!

reply

[deleted]

I do not know this show...sure, as long as it's an animal you loved on film👍

reply

[deleted]

Oh!
I did not see that coming:/

May he rot in a cell
Let's continue to mention cute movie critters!

reply

[deleted]

Bruce could certainly make the cut but he was a malfunctioning robot shark, not an actual animal performer

Apparently, robotics were not perfect in the 70s and Bruce the shark was a big pain in the ass to work with...Some claim that the infrequent views of the shark in Jaws increased the suspense of the film...I tend to agree

reply

I will never cease to be amazed and depressed and dismayed at the depravity humankind can sink to. Don't have an answer for it.

reply

[deleted]

He was just plain stupid, as was his girlfriend. I'm offended that you would equate me with being depraved for remembering Grizzly Man. Report and Ignore ! Depraved is no joking matter. I was being serious.

reply

Lassie deserves a mention, even though she was played by a male dog.

😎

reply

I wonder how many Lassies there were
Had to be a few!

reply

I don't know, but there had to be a number of them. The TV series ran for 20 years, which is friggin' amazing!

😎

reply

I never really assigned a gender to Lassie. Even though I have seen a lassie go this way and that way.
Guess I was ahead of my time.

reply

Babe in Babe.

reply

So cute...he and Wilbur from Charlotte's Web are the only two little piggies I wouldn't eat, strictly out of respect😉

reply

Have to agree :-)

reply

Excellent choice!
Makes you want to be a vegetarian!!

reply

😲

reply

Alternate ending? XD

reply

[deleted]

Wish i had a wife like that.

reply

[deleted]

I like pigs too so that is not a problem XD

reply

i still have not seen babe. one of the gaps in my film vocabulary i most want to fill. it never seems to stream anywhere. i'll have to break down & rent it one of these days.

reply

I'm sure you can easily find an upload of it through google :-)
