If MJ's accusers are lying, should they be punished?

I heard that there is no penalty for defaming a deceased person.

reply

But it's odd that speaking ill of the dead is considered taboo and they often get more respect than the living.

reply

It would stifle debate over historical figures.

reply

Well, that's a fair point...in other words a Biopic of Mussolini might include tales of his many mistresses and dalliances which frankly doesn't make a married guy look so good
I see your point

This whole MJ story is an epic downer

reply

Because before all the adultery rumors, Mussolini had a spotless reputation.

reply

He had the trains running on time!

Seriously though, he was a total heel but I was reading about him recently so he's been on my mind...perhaps I could have thought of a better example:/

reply

It's understandable. History's biggest monsters are often the most fascinating to research. Hitler had a crazy sex life and was on an unbelievable cocktail of drugs during his time in rule.

reply

😂 So often you crack me up, Fred.

reply

Mussolini put his first wife and their son in a mental hospital and had them killed. Lovely guy.

reply

They certainly should be harshly punished if proven to be liars
I have my own opinions about MJ and his behavior and I'll leave that out of this

If those men are telling the worst sorts of lies about a dead man they should get some time inside

reply

I hate to say it, but if they are telling the truth now, part of me wants them to be punished for lying before. I'm really torn on the whole thing and we'll never know the truth, but I think that if they committed perjury before to help get him off they shouldn't be rewarded now. How many others were hurt because they said that he did nothing to them?

I know that it's not simple and victims rights are a very delicate issue, and I don't want to actually see them in jail or anything. I just don't think that they should be rewarded.

reply

You don't know much about the psychological effect of being abused. It's quite common for people to deny for most of their lifetime

reply

Actually I do. I also know about denial and the shame and guilt that comes with it. I'm very torn on this and I'm having difficulty expressing it. I don't want to see them punished as much as I don't want to see them rewarded financially if that makes sense. How many others were hurt because they lied?

From what I understand, at least Robson, under oath, in a court of law, testified on Michael's behalf? As an adult? Is that not correct?

reply

The punishment should be that really bad untrue but convincing stories will be told about them after they were dead. But they won't know what those are...

reply

There's no legal precedent for such punishment.

reply

the penalty is getting your butthole licked

reply

How do you prove a negative?

Sadly, I suspect they're telling the truth, but if they are lying, and if they were somehow found to be lying (which strikes me as near impossible), I suspect the hate they'd get on social media would be punishment enough (and I say that as someone who'd be pretty pissed myself if it transpired they were lying).*

Still, I feel queasy about imprisoning accusers because it potentially deters genuine accusers from coming forward.

*Then again, my happiness at discovering Jackson was innocent would far outweigh anything I felt towards his accusers.

I watched this great video last night from a body language expert. He compares the body language of real sexual abuse victims to Wade and James.

His argument is that there is body language that can be faked, and body language that can't. The body language of trauma that can be faked, they do, the body language that is very hard to fake, they don't do. Conclusion? No trauma. Either they're lying or they feel nothing bad about having sex as a child.

reply

First, he's not a body language expert, and doesn't claim to be one. Which is a good thing, because if he did make such a claim, he'd be terrible at it.

He does say he has 18 (? I think that's what he said) years of working with people who've been sexually abused.

First mistake he made was comparing apples to oranges. It starts out with two (possibly more, couldn't get past the second one) informal interviews with victims of child molestations. He doesn't establish any baseline of a person's body language, which is critical for accuracy, and any expert knows this.

Second, a private informal interview, filmed with no audience, not intended to be televised internationally, is obviously going to be a much more relaxed atmosphere for the victim, even though recounting their abuse is inevitably going to be stressful by nature. But it's a much safer, more intimate environment.

These victims may have been recounting it for the first time.

James, and particularly Wade, first recounted their experiences years ago, on TV (Wade), and in court (both), and on Leaving Neverland, a Q&A after it was shown at Sundance, and in Oprah's show that immediately followed the airing of it. All in front of audiences, except in Leaving Neverland.

This woman actually is a body language expert, and this is her analysis.

I don´t see getting at hate on social media as punishment since it can be easily avoided.

reply

Once you die you belong to history.

reply

Yes, but still, you should respect people in death also. For example, Elvis had a close friend named Joe who wrote a tell all book about Elvis and his drug use, his cheating, his gluttony, and I thought "would Elvis want you to do this? Respect your friends secrets". I personally didn't need to know that Elvis once ate a whole cake, then got another, and when someone said "where you gonna put it?" He lost his shit and fired the guy.

reply

Aren't you perpetuating something you claim to be opposed to? I probably never would have known this about Elvis if you hadn't just posted it here.
