Great Movies That Took Years To Appreciate?

from mass audiences and/or critics?

It's a Wonderful Life

It only became truly regarded as a Christmas classic, the Christmas movie classic in fact, after it began to be screened during the 1970s on US TV.

I would have thought every christmas it would have been "big"

I saw it on the big screen a couple of days before last Christmas. It's funny how little of the film takes place at Christmas.

"Scarface" (1983). It took years for people to appreciate that movie but it's the most badass gangster movie of all time. Much better than that dreadfully boring "Goodfellas." (Just my opinion)

Gattaca. My new/old favorite movie at the moment.

I don't think The Shawshank Redemption did very well at the box office but became very highly regarded in the years since the theatrical release.

That's the kind a movie I want to act in, so it seems like it wasn't for the money but everyone loves it, I'm the edgey supporting character of course

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

Office Space didn't seem to do great at the box office but really caught fire once it was released on video and word of mouth spread of how great it was.
