What is the best movie to win Best Picture?

"Silence of the Lambs."

Either that or "Rebecca."

No contest: Casablanca

Great film. It just barely loses to the two I mentioned above.

Almost every line in "Silence" and "Casablanca" is quotable ("Rebecca" too, but to a slightly lesser degree). Amazingly well written films.

That's hard to say. There are many good movies that won Best Picture :D.

I know not everyone will agree, but I'll list the ones I think deserved it:

- Titanic
- Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
- My Fair Lady
- The King's Speech
- The Sound of Music

These are basically movies that had good acting, awesome visuals, well-done costumes, great music, and a well-written story you can watch any time and feel good about it.

I liked "Return" the first time. Found it excruciatingly boring the second, and subsequent times, I tried to sit through it.

"Titanic" gets a lot of shit and while its script is clunky and the acting occasionally laughable it is in my book pretty engaging from start to finish.

All your other choices are pretty decent.

reply

Thanks :) We did get tired of Titanic after a while, but I still listen to the music sometimes, or read up on the costumes. At least when you watch it, you know what to expect from it.

No room for Chariots of Fire?

reply

Omg! :O I totally forgot that! Just the music alone should make it win Best Picture!

reply

Nah, I thought that was kind of a weak film to be the BP winner.

reply

Well, at least the music got a well-earned award. It is phenomenal.

reply

The music was great but that was such a small part of the film. I think it is a fine film and it is the kind of movie they love to nominate but for me it was a bit of a disappointment.

reply

Agreed 100%! One of my all-time favorites.
