Art Imitating Life in movies and tv....

I was reading this thread earlier

https://moviechat.org/general/General-Discussion/5c6a614459fede7756bbd23c/What-problem-or-situation?reply=5c6e38eee9ec01272cf8248a&animate=false

and got a fun idea :)

I'm a fan of TV Tropes, which is a fun and very engrossing website to visit, and one section that caught my eye was about art imitating life. Now one fun thing we could talk about, are really crazy, [supposedly] unrealistic, wacky things that have happened in movies or tv shows, but also happened in real life.

A few examples might be:

- crazy outfits no sane person would wear in this era, but they did in others
- love at first sight
- a fish that looks like a cartoon character
- totally insane, classified mission you never would believe actually happened, but did in war of times past
- totally insane, classified experiment that really did happen, but only a few people know about it, and can't prove it happened
- pets that no sane person would keep as pets, but real people have
- epic castles and palaces

There's more, but I thought people might know of some more fun ones :)

Ray Donovan hiring a hooker and a thug to stage an attempted rape in Central Park so a mayoral candidate could “happen” by and foil the assault and be elected-art, sort of.

Jussie Smollett hiring guys to pretend to attack him so he can become famous-real life.

In this case, life imitated fiction. Badly.

I'll try to use a less negative one :). See, my dad was playing this WWII pilot's game, and one of the secret missions he had to do was a real life classified mission done during that war, and it succeeded too! Here's what he had to do:

He had to take a female spy as a passenger on his plane, fly down over a train going through the German countryside at night, and go at just the right speed so she could jump out of the plane and onto the train without getting killed. Now in the game, you get many tries, but in real life, this pilot had one shot, and he did it! The spy got safely onto the train, and continued on with her mission in Germany.

There is another really weird real-life situation I heard of, but the problem is, I can't prove it happened. All I know is what my brother's best friend told him, and I have no reason to believe he lied.

The story was that apparently there was a secret government project where 30 people were taken to an isolated island, and given several month's of supplies, and a bunch of pot. The researchers left for a month or two, and came back to find that all the food was gone, most of the people were dead, and the few survivors were violent potheads all huddled in a tribe.

Creepy. Not sure what they were trying to prove with this experiment, but it certainly showed how destructive cannabis can be.

Sorry, but that one sounds fishy.

Yeah, but he claims it really happened *shrugs* and if it did, I would be very scared by the results.

there are more pet tigers in Texas, than there are on the rest of the planet.
