Statistically his Top 6 movies were: None made after 1964
#1 Jailhouse Rock
#2 Love Me Tender
#3 Loving You
#4 Viva Las Vegas
#5 G.I. Blues
#6 Blue Hawaii
I really don't know which movie it was, but there was like a music club or something, and Elvis played there, and it was set somewhere kind of tropical and nice but there was an actual storyline too, it wasn't just an excuse for songs. It was pretty good.
Hey TandyMan....sounds like you are describing King Creole. It was one of his first movies....and he actually did some acting in that one. Walter Matthau played the bad guy in that one. Thanks for the feedback.
I thought that was it but when I was looking at some screen caps I didn't ring a bell. Hey, looks like I have an excuse to watch some Elvis movies to find out.
If that's not the one it could be: Frankie and Johnny (1966 film), co-starring Donna Douglas and Harry Morgan.
The setting is largely New Orleans, Louisiana. A stage room is the centerpiece of the film.
Elvis himself would be in agreement with your statement. He really wanted to be an actor, being able to go outside his singing career, but more often than not, be placed into musical movies with much reluctance.
Probably why he enjoyed Love Me Tender (1956) so much. Even though he sang, he got to show a whole lot more range.
Colonel Parker wanted Elvis to have top billing and he also demanded an outrageous amount of money. Meanwhile Elvis hadn't acted in awhile and was a physical mess.
Likely for the best. Even if it got big with Elvis on board, it would have cemented Elvis deep into the typecast abyss. I wouldn't put it past Elvis that he deliberately sabotaged his chance for the role, not that he had to try.
I looked at your link. I had no idea he made that many movies. The only one I kind of remember is Blue Hawaii and that's more because Angela Lansbury played his mother. I think you watch Elvis movies for the music and the beach scenes. ππ΄ποΈ
