This happens in every slasher film.
shareThe cat jumps out of nowhere scaring the hell out of the character...who then breathes a sigh of relief...'heh, everything's fine, I really must keep it together...now, let me open this closet to get something or other...'
I remember that happening in "Friday the 13th: Part 2," but I haven't seen it in any other movie, at least with there being a cat involved.
sharewindows/shutters blowing open
trees banging on window
the basement light doesnt work, but they go down anyway, in spite of the music
face in the mirror / rearview mirror
thump in the night
screechy creepy violin music
haunting voice calling your name from a distance
I'm sure they can't hear the music. Usually music is added in post.

share"It" (2017).
That scene made me laugh.
Haven't seen that one yet. My aversion to clowns, maybe. I was thinking of this one.
May be a bit disturbing to some:

The Hills have Eyes II (2007), my rating went from solid 5/10 to weak 6/10 due to the relative cuteness of that scene.
