An overlooked horror movie cliche...

Blood shown splattering on a wall after someone is killed.

This happens in every slasher film.

The cat jumps out of nowhere scaring the hell out of the character...who then breathes a sigh of relief...'heh, everything's fine, I really must keep it together...now, let me open this closet to get something or other...'

reply

You've been watching too much Friday the 13th.

reply

Part II...a prime example

reply

No such thing as too much Friday the 13th!

reply

I remember that happening in "Friday the 13th: Part 2," but I haven't seen it in any other movie, at least with there being a cat involved.

reply

Scream. Tatum in the garage.

reply

Oh yeah. I bet Wes Craven did that on purpose.

reply

It's actually in Kevin Williamson's original script, but considering he's a major horror movie buff, it's very likely he did it intentionally.

reply

The dog disappears or is badly slaughtered

reply

The Hills Have Eyes...poor doggy

reply

Also, "Halloween"

reply

Yes
Part 2 I think

reply

No, the dog died in the first one.

reply

I recall he killed at least two dogs
One he chopped up and ate in his childhood home and another (a German Shepherd..?) he strangled in a yard
Been a while so I may be fuzzy on the deets

reply

I think you're right. I forgot about that part in the second movie.

reply

Oh I hate when I start watching a horror movie and I see that there's a dog in it. There seems to be some kind of law that if a dog is present in a horror movie, it WILL die. :(

reply

I didn't mind seeing that evil dog die in The Omen

windows/shutters blowing open
trees banging on window
the basement light doesnt work, but they go down anyway, in spite of the music
face in the mirror / rearview mirror
thump in the night
screechy creepy violin music
haunting voice calling your name from a distance

reply

I'm sure they can't hear the music. Usually music is added in post.

reply

vomiting black or green stuff.

There is not a single reliable adult to be found when Mr Mask starts offing the teenagers

reply

Halloween 1978 fits this perfectly

reply

Yup...Halloween is possibly the best slasher ever and really set some bars high
Lots of the Fridays and Elm Streets had the same cliche...all of the parents and authority figures were totally distracted dumbasses

reply

Mutant bad guy waves you 'bye-bye' with your severed arm.

"It" (2017).

That scene made me laugh.

reply

Haven't seen that one yet. My aversion to clowns, maybe. I was thinking of this one.
May be a bit disturbing to some:

The Hills have Eyes II (2007), my rating went from solid 5/10 to weak 6/10 due to the relative cuteness of that scene.
