Last lines

What movies were these last lines from?

"Why was I not mad of stone like thee?"

"It wasn't the airplanes. It was beauty killed the beast."

reply

Second line is from "King Kong" (1933).

what a beatifully sad line that is - this film affected me quite a bit as a youngster. exposure to such sadness, alienation as a permanent status of life is a heavy concept.

Do you know if it's raining out?

-Woody Allen "Take the Money and Run". Far and away Woody's best movie. Much better than "Annie sucks".

"Take the Money and Run" is from 1969, the first movie he actually filmed himself. Technically, his first movie was "What's Up Tiger Lily" in '66 but he just dubbed over a Japanese film that I believe was called "The Key of Keys" but I wouldn't swear to that and I'm too lazy to look it up. But yeah I like early Woody Allen movies like "Bananas" (1971) and "Sleeper" (1973). Maybe I am just an idiot because everybody except me seems to love "Annie Hall". To me this was the beginning of Woody Allen's downfall, when he started to take himself too seriously and make serious films that people will pretend to think are great even though no one actually enjoys them (this is my belief in regards to most movies that are generally regarded as "great", prime example being "The Godboring"). His early movies were just madcap screwball comedies and that's what makes them fun to watch. Same reason why Roger Moore is my favorite James Bond.

Guess this one:

"...By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfill their promise. They never will! Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people! Now let us fight to fulfill that promise! Let us fight to free the world! To do away with national barriers! To do away with greed, with hate and intolerance! Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men's happiness. Soldiers, in the name of democracy, let us all unite! (Cheers) Hannah, can you hear me? Wherever you are, look up, Hannah! The clouds are lifting! The sun is breaking through! We are coming out of the darkness into the light! We are coming into a new world, a kindlier world, where men will rise above their hate, their greed and brutality. Look up, Hannah! The soul of man has been given wings and at last he is beginning to fly. He is flying into the rainbow! Into the light of hope! Into the future, the glorious future that belongs to you, to me, and to all of us. Look up, Hannah! Look up!"
