I believe these are my top 10 favorite Trilogies...for me theres a big different between favorite and IMO The Best...

for example When I make my "IMO The Best Trilogies" list...

The Dark Knight Trilogy will be ranked ahead of The Cap Trilogy, Back to the Future Will be higher, The New PLanet of the apes Trilogy Will be on there(Rise,Dawn and War), The Matrix Trilogy will be on there, Basically Quality of the films will out weight my enjoyment...

Also Worth Noting...There are Few Trilogies that are set to be completed in the next year or so that Is Probably going to Move into my top 10 Favorites....

John Wick chapter 3 is coming this summer...If that film is anywhere close to JW1 and 2....The John Wick Trilogy will easily be in My top 5....

In January Glass Is set to Debut completing M. Night Shyamalan's Superhero Trilogy...Its entire possible if Glass is great it will take over ,my #2 spot as Unbreakable and Split are 2 of my favorite movies

what is your top 10?

The original Star Wars movies. Otherwise I think trilogies are really no good.

reply

Most of them aren’t really trilogies. They’re series. I’ve explained the difference about 30 times. I’m not doing it again.

reply

I think understand the difference you're alluding to, but it's the term used in the movie industry for any set of 3 films connected to each other.

reply

I understand, but it’s an illiterate misuse of the word, and I will combat sloppy thinking and the corruption of languge until I die; and I may not stop even then.

BTW, none of my comments are directed at the OP, who was simply using a term that has fallen into common mis-use.

So, Dr. No, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger are three parts of a trilogy? The first three Shrek and Austin Powers abominations are trilogies? There are three Ghostbuters movies? A trilogy? People in the film industry may not be precise, nor literate, nor educated, nor smart, nor give a damn. That doesn’t mean that movie fans have to descend to their level. As a sidebar, it doesn’t mean that we should tolerate the practice of cutting the final entry of a book-series-made-into-movie-series into TWO PARTS just to suck more money out of the suckers in the audience.

Oh, and for the record? An epic can ONLY be a poem. A film may be “of epic proportion” or “of epic scope,” but it can never be “an epic.” The Odyssey is an epic.

absolutely complete understand and dont disagree, I know the difference your talking about , I just dont go by it....

for my list personal, I count any franchise/or series that have 3 films.....Or If A franchise has more than 3 films, I sometimes Will count 3 particular films in row if I feel They are basically a trilogy(example being The Bourne Franchise that now has 5 films but I will always count the first 3 as a trilogy or The Mission Impossible Franchise that I feel completely changed Tones and the way they make their films over The last 3 films in the series)

I have no problem if you want to go by The Technical definition for your list of Trilogies....

I just chose to count any series of 3 films....

I was even thinking about adding a Note to my original post saying "Technical some of my Trilogies I listed doesnt actually meet the definition of A trilogy, But I'm choosing to count any series of 3 films a trilogy"

but didnt because I figured the post was long enough and because I didnt think any one would really complain about it...Lists are for fun, I just figured people would either list their for fun or ignore this post id they were interested, But I was wrong

Like out of the trilogies I listed

Your ratings are way too high for some of these movies.

reply

^^^

I dont think you can call My personal ratings too high or wrong as they are my opinions, but ya I have no problem admitting I probably like certain films more than the majority consensus of the film...

for example My ratings on Hannibal and Red Dragon arent at all in line in the Majority Consensus, I have Hannibal rated an 8 which is pretty good and I think the overall consensus is the film is pretty disappointing and probably the average rating would be 6 or 7....

but I simply Like Them more than others....I'm perfectly fine admitting I'm in The Minority...

I see people all the time try to argue "everyone is wrong and they are right"...when they like a film most do not....for some reason they get so invested in the film they cant except, Most didn't like it, and will go to the end of the earth to claim "critics" are wrong and everyone who disliked is stupid....

but me, Nope....I'm ok simply liking a film and excepting others do not...

So if Your talking My ratings arent in line with the consensus for some of these films, I completely agree...

but If your simply saying YOU disagree with my ratings and think they are way too high, then I disagree as Personal ratings are opinions and everyone has different ones

The evil dead trilogy was pretty solid...for what it was👍

reply

Indiana Jones 1-3

i don't think i have a top 10.

leaving aside some of the obvious answers, i think i'd put in a kind word for:

the trip films. each one of them is a little delight, light-hearted with occasional moments of resentment and bitterness.
i like all of them more or less equally, but the trip to italy has my favourite scenes.

the evil dead films. i'm a bit luke-warm on army of darkness, though it certainly is fun & enjoyable, but the first two films are still complete minty freshness to me.

three colours (red, white & blue)

park chan wook's vengeance trilogy. i only really love oldboy, but the other films in the series are undeniably well made & great.

reply

Emerson, Lake and Palmer, their third studio album. (Boy, that's a Synergy of Trilogies !)

reply

The Billy Jack trilogy, an actual one.
