My Dog Skip.
After I left home, my own dog grew old, but he never forgot me. Whenever I walked through that door during my rare visits home from the Navy, he would go ballistic with joy to see me again.
It wasn't possible for me to be there when my friend finally passed away, and I've always felt infinitely sad about that.
