Dear Jim and Mods: I have a complaint

This is your board, and you can run it any way you like. I understand that.

But will someone please explain why I keep getting the message "YOU'VE POSTED TOO MANY TIMES!" when I'm trying to post. And then the board won't let me post. This is a pain in the posterior. I post on another board, and have never gotten that message.

What is up with that? What does it accomplish? I would think the more posts, the better, freedom of speech. What are you trying to accomplish here? I would appreciate an explanation.

Thank you.
Sincerely,
MovieManCin2

I get that message all the time.
I think it says you've posted too often or something like that.
It is very frustrating.

I believe it's a way to prevent robo spamming on this site.
This only a guess.

reply

I think it's ironic and appropriate humor when viewed in the context of how he's gloried in his posting count.

reply

Db play nice.
I'm trying to be on my best behavior.
It's the classic struggle of good vs. evil.

reply

You're implying I'm not playing nice? I've had a lot of crap on my plate here lately and while I won't try to claim my best behavior, I think I've displayed some restraint and civility, all things considered. Are you telling me you can't see the wry humor in his complaint ?

reply

I'm not trying to imply anything.
It wasn't lost on me at all.

All I know is If we're going to turn the page it should be with everybody.
A lot of negativity has come out over the last several days.
I just choose not to be a part of it anymore.

reply

In the midst of the foray I just dealt with, he just had to chime in & refer to me as " a low grade moron " so now I can't help but enjoy this bit of karmic comeuppance.

reply

I get it. Believe me, I totally get it.

reply

Since when is "robo spamming" a problem? I've never even heard of it.

😎

reply

It's always a problem. Think of all the crap you get in your e-mail.
If you haven't heard of it then that means the filter is working.

reply

I agree. Yes, it's annoying, but it's the price we pay to avoid being inundated with garbage here. I only see it when I make a second post on the same thread a few seconds after the first was made. Ironic as I'm not known to be a quick typist.

reply

Me too.
I take it as a compliment. I never knew I could type so fast!

It was very noticeable during our anniversary weekend.
Especially during the games.

reply

Don't I know it! Over and over again. Short responses and all.

reply

It was the worst, it really was.
Another bad thing is when you hit "add reply" and get that message it takes you
to the beginning of the post.
If it's a long thread that really sucks to find where your reply is.

Most of the time I just start over and hope I remember my brilliant responses!

reply

That's the part I didn't like. For me, unless my reply was on the front page, I lost it. The second composition is rarely as good as the first. 😞

reply

It never is the same.
By the time you get to your second response you're already drunker and forget everything.

reply

Well, there is that... 🍷

reply

Obviously in a good way!

reply

I'm having one more 🍺 and then it's off to bed-y-bye.

reply

The night is just starting!

reply

Come on! The birds will be up in less than two hours! I've had a full day, too.

reply

I get it.
From the looks of my pups they called it a day a long time ago.
Maybe I should follow suit.

reply

The Witching Hour is in about 40 min. according to my time zone.

reply

That's all I need.
Mosquitoes and now ghosts.

reply

I'm your favorite alien and I've come to abduct you. 👽

reply

My favorite from among several that are interested in me ? I just might not resist very much.

reply

❤️️
I always thought that with each one of these 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷, our responses just get that much more profound and just plain brilliant! 😉

reply

I don't want to think about some posts of mine. When I reread them the next day I really can't remember writing them. Egads.

reply

❤️️
At that point, don't you wish you had a sock to blame it on?😉

reply

Interesting thought. Hmm.

reply

😂 I do!

One night recently, for reasons still unknown, I half wrote a post and somehow managed to post it. Imma blame it on my doppelgänger sock!! [yes]

reply

❤️️
I saw that! Blame it on BookssCat!

reply

You did? And here I was hoping no one had noticed 😂

Bad, BAD BookssCat! 😡

reply

True. I just got that DAMN message again!

😎

reply

Quit typing so damn fast!

reply

LOL!

DAAMMNN! I just got that friggin' message AGAIN!

😎

reply

It's a program made to spam online forums by trying to post very very often, usually advertisements.

Moviechat discussion board software is built from the ground up by Jim alone. The implementation of the measures to counter robot spamming may be simply too crude.

reply

Perhaps he could dial it back a bit? Btw, I just suggested that to Mod3. I will be interested to hear his/her response.

😎

reply

Unfortunately, I don't see Jim to be around lately. And I believe mods can't touch the programming side of the site.

But I might be wong.

Hey, I'm an Asian! It was not a racist joke!

reply

LMFAO over here! That's a good one. There's entirely too much PC shit these days.

Q: Do you know why Germans make the worst tourists?
A: Because they keep forgetting to leave!

I'm part German.

😎

reply

It's annoying, agreed. Everyone gets that message.

Godewey's right, Jim set that in place so spammers can't flood the place.

reply

Okay, thanks for the explanation.

😎

reply

Okay I can see if I've posted eight or ten times in a row, but I just got the message for a second post. Can we maybe dial back the frequency with which we get the message?

😎

reply

Yep, we all get that message even when only posting a second post. One tip I can give you is the clock starts all over again each time you get that message, so save yourself the irritation and wait. I say this from personal experience 😉

Jim's the only one who can do that, providing the software allows that change. It may be an all or nothing deal, I don't know. He's been tied up in a project for months, so I only contact him for very urgent things. I'd rather he spent whatever time he'll have available working on fixing the ignore feature, and pretend the frequent posting message is a feature for me to exercise patience, until or if he can fix it.

reply

Thanks, Mod3. I appreciate your feedback, and yes, that is exactly what I do.

😎

reply

MC- The teaching site!
Teaching us patience.
Nice way of looking at it.

IF I WERE A DOCTOR!
See what I did there. 😉

reply

It helps keep me from kicking the furniture whenever I get that message.

I see what you did. IF I WERE A CARPENTER!

reply

Not sure if I'm ready for a baby right now. Sweet thought though.
At least you're on the top of the world lookin' down on creation.

See, this is what we do!
We can't help ourselves!

Well done btw.
