The tragedy of drug addiction (alcohol included) has taken a lot of people far too young. Whose death hit you?
Whitney Houston - age 48

Can I add some local names?
shareNone. I agree, addiction has hit a lot of people. None grieve me too much as I look at it like they chose this route. You don't get addicted if you choose to abstain from the stuff. I watch that show "Intervention" a lot with families dealing with their out of control, messed up drug relatives and kids. Seeing how people are and seeing that even though many of them end up going to a rehab clinic they almost ALWAYS end up rehabbing, people steal from their own families, people become prostitutes to get drugs.
After seeing this show I think I'd disown my kids if they turned into one of these people and I'd walk away.
Yeah, I've seen/read about 30-40 actors, actresses, musicians dying due to drugs. It's sad but I don't get down about any of them. As someone who's never done drugs or marijuana...I look at it like they did it to themselves. They chose it, so there is no reason for me to feel bad about it. Don't take drugs that first time and you won't end up like that.
Haven't we all heard enough "don't do drugs" messages? I must have heard 10,000 public service ads. "This is your brain....this is your brain on drugs"...."Just say no".....etc. Stop trying drugs.
99% of people who are or were substance addicted are unconsciously trying to self-medicate as a means of relief from the pain of some kind of trauma, usually childhood trauma. IMO they are deserving of compassion.
