do folks with generic movie tastes bother you?
You know what I'm talking about. The guy who says their favorite movie is The Dark Knight or Fight Club, or the chick who says their favorite movie is The Breakfast Club or Mean Girls.
For me personally, it's only annoying when the person claims that they're also a major movie buff or a film student. It makes me wonder what else have they actually seen when their tastes are so damn generic. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying folks who like these films are automatically dumb and inferior, as I myself like most of them (with the exception of The Breakfast Club). But I find that folks who list nothing but such safe, generic choices as their favorites are often the type of people who don't watch much outside their comfort zone (as in foreign films, films made pre-1970 etc.) Again, not saying that it makes them inferior, just a little uninformed.
To avoid coming off as a snob, some of my favorite "generic" movies include Scarface, Inglourious Basterds, and Braveheart. My "less generic" choices include Malena, Robin and Marian, and Body Double.
