What makes someone to spend 200$ on a video game!?
Never say i'm obsessed ever again!!
shareWell people spend hundreds of dollars on in game crap all the time, so I suppose they have become more predisposed to overspend. But in reality game players have always spent for this kind of thing. A console is most expensive on the day of its release but how many people purchase one on opening day? Even though the PS3 was way overpriced at launch it still sold a pretty good amount on release. Graphic cards can be massively expensive, and there are many people with rigs featuring two of these expensive cards which provide boosted if not exactly twice the performance and this doesn't include the cost of all the extra things people buy such as water cooling system for the PC...VR gear, headsets, "gaming" chairs, etc.
SO 200 dollars for mostly crap you don't need, a lara figure, and the largely meaningless opportunity to play it a couple days ahead of time..probably is nothing compared to what they have already spent.
Exactly what's the point anyway!? A few extra puzzles and outfits!? I'm willing to pay a hundred, but two!? NO THANK YOU!
shareFrom what I can tell?
"Special edition" ad-ons like game walk-through books, original game soundtrack, tv series or movie that the game is based on, letter from the creator/artist who worked on said game, specialized game-based art/posters/art books, specific-to-game rare items like weapons, musical instruments, jewellery, etc., figurines, costumes, a combination of these things, and so on. The games are already like $100 a pop, so why would an extra $100 seem like much more when you're getting stuff that would cost you hundreds, if not thousands, to buy individually and whose authenticity you don't have to question?
It's seen as a collectible that will have future value, so it's deemed an investment. And it may well be, given how geek culture takes off spontaneously.
I'd say that if it truly adds value to your life, go for it. I'm an extreme minimalist myself but I often feel tempted to buy merchandise, collector editions of games in particular as it happens. I haven't given in in years but I understand the feeling.
shareI'm not going for it,not after what it means in my currency.
shareI spent $260 on a model car recently. It's only like 4 inches long. But it is from a limited edition of 50 pieces.
shareYeah, well I bought a $500 camera and a $500 pair of binoculars, because my hobby is birdwatching!
The justification is simple: It's my money.
