Anyone else not like superhero films?
I just can't get into them. Yet they keep churning them out 2-3 at a time, all year long. People can't get enough of them. What is the deal with this?

shareI tried to watch Wonder Woman because Gal Gadot is a stunner, but just couldn't get into the plot.
I kind of liked "Logan." Does that count? Other than that, not a fan.
I'm not a fan either. Back when I was a kid, I loved the Sam Raimi Spiderman movies and still do. I was never into the MCU. I find them totally bland and devoid of any real drama or weight. I know, they are essentially kid-friendly family movies, but I've seen animated movies with more weight to them.
shareI loathe them and do NOT see.
sharelike them or not, they seem to be the only reliable money makers large studios can turn to in order to make the kind of profits they need to cover their overhead.
you can lament this, but it does seem to be our current state, and i doubt it will get better. certainly i don't think we'll ever see a return to the 70s or earlier, where studios would churn out fairly adult, even daring films meant for mature audiences. the destruction of home video by piracy & rise of alternative forms of entertainment have diminished that market to the point where it's just not economically feasible for big studios to do business with those kinds of movies, i suspect.
so we have this world where the big players try to release universally popular films to get the diminished remaining consumer base into the theatres, and the adult-themed films are now more or less the exclusive domain of independent filmmakers.
not that i'm an expert on such matters. this is all my back-seat driving. i may be completely wrong.
and for the record, i like almost all the marvel films quite a bit, as a guy who grew up reading them i get a reasonable kick out f them, but i certainly don't think they're all people should watch.
Some of them are good, but I haven't seen any of the new ones in years. I'm just tired of them.
shareThese are movies for the new generation, teenagers love this crap
shareMy Superhero hype train started with Superman and ended with the first Avengers movie, which I thought was basically the pinnacle of the genre with a lot of great movies in between. It's all just been rehash since then, the same themes and ideas recycled over and over again. I'm not wooed by spectacle. There's only so many stories that can be told, dressing them up in different skins doesn't impress me. And MacGuffin plots are total bullshit.
