Favorite song from each decade

This was a very hard list to compile, for certain decades anyway. Be strict, pick one per decade. I know this may change often, but how do you feel right now?

Before the 50s, I am not familiar enough with popular music to have opinions, school me.

Here's mine:

50s
Be-Bop-A-Lula - Gene Vincent and his Blue Caps
https://youtu.be/2HKaXKOifMI

60s
A Day in the Life - The Beatles
https://youtu.be/usNsCeOV4GM

70s
Crazy on You - Heart
https://youtu.be/ljFtB5XMgl8

80s
Billie Jean - Michael Jackson

90s
Drive - R.E.M.
https://youtu.be/APwmDgnJbz4

00s
Hide and Seek - Imogen Heap

10s
Tennis Court - Lorde

reply

Damn, PR, you are stellar.

reply

Try to make a list yourself Cub

reply

It's overwhelming though, PR.

All I can come up with is for the:::

60s---"Everlasting Love" - Robert Knight

& now the:::

70s---"Everything I Own" - David Gates & Bread - A tribute to his father.

reply

You can do it, hell I was born in 1987. It was very hard. Believe me I wanted to do like 20 Beatles songs, but had to narrow that down. I like Everlasting Love a lot. The 60s and the 80s were the hardest to pick for me, because there's just so much I like.

reply

Take a look at this on YouTube, PR.

Robert Knight, "Everlasting Love" 2014

reply

Wow that was pretty good considering his age. Legendary for sure.

reply

Yep, it's been done many times since, but, the original (him singing and the girl in the background wailing to begin (first 50 seconds) the studio recording) is the goods. After that they employ a "toy piano" deep in the production.

reply

Great songs. I’m impressed that you were able to pick just one song from each decade. An exercise like that would paralyze me.

reply

It's tough, but try, it makes you really consider what you care about, what you like and why. You can always post your changed mind tomorrow.

reply

......LOL! Me too.

reply

50s - Gimme Some Money
60s - Listen to the Flower People
70s - Sex Farm
80s - Stonehenge
90s - Bitch School
00s beyond - patiently awaiting Saucy Jack

reply

I love anything from Smell the Glove

reply

Nice 😂

reply

Greatest list ever!

1930s

1940s

Take the “A” Train - Duke Ellington and his Big Band

1950s

Johnny B. Goode - Chuck Berry

1960s

1990

Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Eva Cassidy

The 21st century

Nothing. Modern music is wretched, with infantile lyrics and pedestrian melody intended for a desensitized and attention-challenged audience.

reply

Thanks for being the first person to make a stab at it, but you're also a pretentious goon who nobody cares for. Go away forever.

reply

Argument ad hominem. I’m quite content where I am.

reply

Yes you're a real winner. You're so smart and we're all very impressed. It's not like you're a major joke or anything. It's not a secret, even strangers know you're insufferable.

reply

Kane has always been a grandiose, self-aggrandizing phony here.

reply

1930's Night and Day Cole Porter but I love Gershwin as well.

reply

You can’t go wrong with either of those guys.

reply

My silly scribble pad is covered in my chicken scratches...ARRRGGGHHH!

Awesome thread broheim and some great tunes so far!

reply

Thanks, I'm trying to think of new threads we haven't done. Rating and ranking is so hard, especially arbitrary ratings for movies we just watched, but favorites seem a little more accessible. Remember it's just how you feel right now, if you can only pick one.

reply

You've been aces
Keep it up bud

This one is a killer question
Im on it👍

reply

[deleted]

Im mostly Heavy Metal but like everything else quite a lot (except for country and the more recent HipHop...i just dont like that stuff but good for them and their huge audience/market)
I need to respond but as of now 'im getting served...'
It aint easy😖
Tomorrow i will respond with Ronny James Dio epic-ness!!!

reply
