Biggest cliche?

"You have just signed my death warrant!"

reply

"The early bird gets the worm."

reply

"Is this some kind of a joke?"

reply

Presently, it's " At the end of the day..."

Listen to pundits on various news outlets for just one day and take note of how often that expression is used.

reply

I don't know where I'm goin' but I sure know where I've been

reply

(Tough guys talking smack, ending in) "Then I'll see you in hell!"

(Character is confronted about a lie, responds with) "I don't know what you're talking about!"

Or my favorite, when a character has a nightmare, wakes up and bolts upright in bed screaming. When has anyone EVER woken up screaming?

reply

Right before the big fight scene:
'Lets DO this!'

Al Bundy always did the best variation:
'Lets rock...'

reply

For horrors...

Trying to escape in a car are you? Enjoy it not starting until the killer/monster gets to jump on it first.

Trying to escape on foot are you? Don't forget to trip on that leaf.

Trying to hide are you? Remember to breathe loudly and whimper and make enough noise so the killer can find you.

Oh, you've incapacitated our maniac and are holding a sledgehammer. Remember, real heroes throw weapons away and sit down to reflect on the evenings events instead of bashing faces in.

One last thing. Now you think you've killed the killer after shouting a cheesey Arnie one liner. Remember to tilt that mirror in your bathroom for your jumpscare reward!

These are rampant cliches in the horror genre and frequently annoying!
The 'tripping on random stuff' is really irksome lol...damn do i get pissed at these ones

Well done

i. Characters conducting surveillance using modern day DSLRs, but the camera sounds like a shutter and film advance from an old school 35 mm SLR.

ii. Titles that state the famous city AND the country that's it's in, as the establishing shot zooms over some famous landmark in that city. Presumably this is for the geographically challenged.

London, England. (No s**t... thought it might have been London, Ontario in Canada, even though I'm staring at Big Ben on the screen...)

Paris, France. (I think that big-ass Eiffel Tower firmly establishes that this isn't Paris, Texas.)

This cliche is so old, that it was spoofed decades ago in Kentucky Fried Movie.

Also, whenever these titles appear on screen it's always with this vaguely stroboscopic effect, accompanied by a sound like an old-school dot matrix printer.

reply

Speaking of Paris, have you noticed in movies/TV that just about every apartment has a view of the Eiffel Tower?
