Remakes that were just awful compared to the original

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Willie was just plain creepy in this (and not amusingly creepy like Wilder was) and the movie lacked the charm of the original

What a misfire!

Star wars
V
Macgyver

reply

What is Star Wars a remake of?

reply

Disney is planning to remake the old movies, that's why i said it

reply

The fact that those supposed remakes don't actually exist for us to judge their quality doesn't seem to bother you, huh.

The three musketeers 2011

reply

Ugh, we were forced to watch that one on the plane! Just awful, although in a funny way sometimes. I think I even prefer the Charlie Sheen version from 1993.

reply

Of?

???

The only decent (3 musk) is "The Man in the Iron Mask." You have Irons, Malcovich, & Byrne, all at prime carrying Depar & Dicap to it.

When "Athos" leans in at the grave site & kisses "Louis'" heart it's a moment.

---

Though toward the end when the family is discussing {at high pitch} who will be wearing the iron mask going forward it's a hoot. Shit, they're like any family.

The American version of the British sitcom Coupling. (The American version didn't make it past the pilot, for good reason.) They used the exact same script, word for word, and every single line fell flat. It was like they had replaced the actors with cardboard cutouts.

reply

Never saw either but ill take your word
The Brits have a knack for comedy and i generally dont enjoy American sitcoms

Old Boy

reply

Loved the original but im fond of the remake as well
Brolin was damn good and the famous hallway fight scene was impressive

reply

Since MissMargo took Psycho, I'll go with The Experiment (remake of the very excellent Das Experiment). It was fun, in a stupid kind of way, but it was just too ridiculous and added this unnecessary thing about evil corporations. I do give them props for trying to add something new though, even if I didn't like it one bit.

Point Break.
Robocop.
Total Recall.

reply

Come on,total recall 2012 was good

reply

To each their own, I hated it. Just a typical joyless way too serious bore. And missing the one thing that seems to be absent in most if not all remakes. Charm.

reply

Agreed on all points
No 'magic' or charm in this cinematic turd...total junk!

reply

Total nonsense every one!
I dont 'hate' the idea of remakes but to take 3 action classics of my youth and screw up every one is going too far Hollywood😖
I couldnt even finish Robocop and Total Recall...Point Break was watchable but made me realize how much the world needed way more Swayze

Arrrggghhh and yuck!

reply

They also all have that horrible colour grading that makes them feel mechanical and cold compared to the originals. After the original Point Break it feels like you got a tan.

reply

Yes...a lot of blue and orange tones
That stuff has been old for ages

reply

Disney's live action version of Beauty and the Beast.

reply

Ha😂 you just love the Disney movies!
Its so sweet and so are you!

I have seen neither but i will take your word for it😉

reply

Don't make fun of me, I can't help being a sweet girl.😢

You've never seen the most beautiful Disney animated movie ever made?! What a disgrace!

reply

Not making fun Dear Lady

Your response was just so cute

Just like you😘

reply

Okay, as long as that's clear!😘

reply

Always!
I'm too scared of the dungeon...i mean 'basement' to give YOU any grief😳

reply

Just admit it, you like my basement. Otherwise you wouldn't come here every week!

reply

You have a fine basement and your upper stories are pretty swell too;)

reply

You really know how to charm the ladies, don't you?😘

reply

Spotless record😂

reply

Vanilla Sky was a horrible remake of Abre Los Ojos

Point of No Return was a dull imitation of La Femme Nikita

=)

reply

I missed both Vanilla and Abre Los Ojos so i cant opine

i enjoyed Point well enough...the girl was cute ( dangit i forget her name )

reply

Yes, the great Bridget Fonda!

Point of No Return is a movie that is pretty good on its own, unless one has seen La Femme Nikita first. The original is a work of art.

reply

I also thought about mentioning Vanilla Sky! A melodramatic egotrip of Tom Cruise that seems to miss the point of the original.
