Remakes that were just awful compared to the original

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Willie was just plain creepy in this (and not amusingly creepy like Wilder was) and the movie lacked the charm of the original

What a misfire!

Point Break

just terrible...

reply

It certainly needed more Swayze...
That guy was cool

The Amityville Horror

reply

Yes...sadly this was not very good
I did enjoy watching it because i love old houses and large properties...'real estate porn' i've been told this is called lol...sorry, not my term but thats what they call a real-estate fascination...i'm always working on my house and surfing the real estate on-line...silly passtime!

The original Amityville house was sold several years ago for about $1Million and is valued far higher now
It's only about 2 hours away from me

A Dutch Colonial and a real beauty...i'd live there in a minute demons be damned!

reply

It is a spectacular house. Pity the had to change the iconic windows.

If you're into real estate porn I recommend you watch Being There starring Peter Sellers. It features a magnificent mansion.

reply

Oh i have heard of this one
Ive not seen it though...
Sellers was so great
Thank you

As for my silly 'real estate porn' comment ( i swear thats not something i made up!! ) if i hit the Mega Lotto in the morning i would spend ALL of it on houses and land...i cant get enough of this real estate biz
When i retire in 10 years this land thing might just be my next gig!

reply

Nothing wrong with admiring good architecture

reply

I agree

Quite likely my next gig after retirement
Im pretty good at sizing up a property $$$

Bit of a hobby of mine

reply

True Grit remake was a joke

reply

I figured that it would be a bad joke. That's why I didn't want to see it.

I'm not keen on the fact that West Side Story is being re-made, either, despite the fact that Steven Spielberg's directing it. West Side Story, imho, is a classic that most definitely should be left alone.

That is exactly how I feel - when a movie is really done well , why try to remake it. I was very disappointed in the Coen brothers , having enjoyed some of their other movies.

As far as the Academy , whatever drugs they are on , I wish they would share

reply

Ditto on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I like Depp, but he's no Gene Wilder.

Since Psycho has already been mentioned, I'll go with Carrie (2013) and The Haunting (1999).

reply

I didnt dislike Carrie but The Haunting was awful

reply

I saw a review of the re-make of "Planet of the Apes", and of the remake of "Psycho". Both of those re-makes went over like lead balloons; inotherwords, not very well.

reply

Having just rewatched Willy Wonka, I think I'm going to suck it up and try Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. In general I think Tim Burton can top the list of bad remakes, or maybe we should say movies that should've been left alone under penalty of death. Willy Wonka, Planet of the Apes, even Alice in Wonderland didn't have much new to offer. Believe it or not I'm a big Tim Burton fan and watch everything he does, which is why I'm attempting Charlie

Oh Tim Burton's Planet of The Apes "surprise twist" of the original twist was so stupid... you can't "twist" a twist, or you end up back with nothing. Like... I'm gonna remake the 6th Sense and the twist it so everyone's alive :smacks forehead:
