Racing mind

Every night when I try to go to sleep my mind starts racing about all the things I did during the day, week, month, etc., people I've known for years and years, my elementary school, high school, college years, books I've read, tv shows, I've watched, wondering if I'll die tomorrow until finally I eventually go to sleep. But it takes about 90 minutes. I'm so sick and tired of this!!!

Put on a movie you really want to see and I guarantee you'll be out like a light in 20 minutes. Works for me

I think part of my problem is that I always watch an episode of Law & Order every night. It might be keeping me awake.

It's quite common, slimone.

I heartily recommend the book "The Untethered Soul" by Michael A. Singer. It has done wonders for me.

Good luck and best wishes. 😃

Thank you! I'll look for it at my local library.

This is almost certainly caffeine or other drugs. Cut out caffeine, it's bad for your body and brain. I stopped caffeine 8 months ago, and after a brutal withdrawal period I sleep so much better. You won't regret it, but you have to put all your will towards doing it. I was drinking caffeine for virtually all of my life, and it was the drug I was most dependent on.

reply

I don't drink anything with caffeine and haven't for years.

Do you take other medications? Are you well hydrated? Meditation and self hypnosis can work wonders when nothing else will. If you have to be thinking about something, think of a gentle shoreline with the waves slowly coming towards you, then away, towards you, away. The sound of your deep breaths will mimic the images you start to see of the shore. Breath with your stomach. Eventually you'll hypnotize yourself to sleep. After you get good at it, it will only take a couple minutes, and you don't need melatonin, although it can help too.
