I've never walked out of a movie in the theater, but I have come close. When I saw the Walden media/Disney version of Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, I detested it beyond words and had to stop myself from walking out. I loved the BBC Narnia productions so much for their faithfulness to the source material and the new version had none of the subtlety or style that I loved. Disney's version was this gross action and bad cgi fest that got worse and worse as they made more films, stories that had already been flawlessly adapted.
When I was young, my mom took us out of "The Way We Were" when Streisand started undressing to get into bed with Redford.
As an adult, it was "The Artist". I enjoy silent movies, so I was looking forward to this one. It's pretentious, dull, and over half-way through I wondered why I was wasting my time. For those who think it's a waste of money to leave, if the money's gone, it's gone. We only have so much time on this earth, so why spend it staring at big screen of worthlessness? But, one can usually just ask for a refund. : )
And, if I were by myself, I would have walked out of "Titanic".
I still haven't seen The Artist. That one kind of just passed me by. I'll still see it despite your review but I am wary. Can't say I agree on Titanic, never saw it in theaters, and it's no masterpiece, but I thoroughly enjoy it.
Titanic was beautifully shot, and the score was lovely. I can understand why people like it. I just didn't care for the characters of Rose (old or young), or any of the characters really. The opening scenes with the obnoxious treasure hunters and that silly necklace story bugged me and the film seemed like it would never end.
Hmm interesting, I enjoy this one. Not amazing but fun. I like Woody, Juliette Lewis, and Downey Jr in that one too much to hate it. Trashy? Of course, I do like my trash when the mood strikes.
I've walked out a couple of times. I believe I once mentioned a certain double date here on General Discussion. That was such a terrible date! I'm no prude, but who takes a woman you barely know to an X rated drive in movie? Alright. The kind of guy who wants his fun!
I also walked out of The Deranged, early 1970's. It was based on the Ed Gein case. It isn't a horrible film even if it is low budget. It's just that I had heard about the case most of my life. In the 70's, I'd say most of my young life. It gave me the serious creeps because it all happened only about 15 to 20 miles from where I was brought up. I found it disturbing in a somewhat personal way.
I have seen it many times since. It no longer bothers me. I actually love horror and gore, but when it deals with things that can actually happen, it gives you pause. That is the real horror!
Oh My Sweet Lord! LOL! I remember that! That was Taxi Driver!
Yup! It was a terrible date. I at least had "friend" with me, although WHY she wanted us to double with those guys is beyond me. We had a big fight over that, and never spoke again.
That's too bad that you lost a friend over the fact that you and she had an argument over the fact that she wanted both you and her to double up with a couple of guys that you didn't like. She didn't sound like much of a friend to begin with.
She really wasn't. We went through Basic Training in South Carolina. We had the same MO, so we went to Virginia for 6 weeks to train before going our separate ways. She seemed guy crazy and a bit too eager to go out with anyone. We spent one afternoon with them walking around an old battleground. That went OK. That was the only reason I decided to double at the drive in the next week. That was the end!🤨
It sounds like the friend who walked out on you after you had the dispute was far more of a "fair-weather" friend, if one gets the drift. That's not much of a friend.
I've never willingly walked out of a movie. I had to run out of Avatar because the 3D made me feel very sick. And when I finally watched the movie, in good old-fashioned 2D, I wasn't very impressed.
The only time I remember wanting to walk out was Interstellar. Beautiful visuals, as you get with Nolan, but around the third overly dramatic climax I was getting very antsy and just wanted it to end already so I can leave!
I came very close to walking out of the film "S. O. B." (Standard Operational Bullshit), because it was so stupid, but I stayed, because I knew we were going out to dinner afterwards.
I've never walked out, I don't think you can get a refund over here. I also feel the urge to just sit it out because of my OCD!😜But I've thought about it a couple of times. Like with The X-files movie, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream 3 and Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes.
When a friend of mine and her family went to see the film version of the musical "1776" at Radio City Music Hall, in NYC, back in 1972, my friend and I walked out of the film halfway through, because we both found it so boring!
