I, Tonya.
How was the film, folks?
shareVery good. Great acting by Margot Robbie. It was also funny as hell. 8/10
shareFor a new movie, great... 7.5/10
shareSaw it today just now at the cinema today with my mother, yeah, I'd say it was pretty good, 7/10.
Could have been a little better in some and other aspects, and at two hours it did feel a little too long in some places, but generally solid overall and worth seeing.
I even managed to find some similarities with it and the little seen (at least outside Russia) 1988 Soviet classic drama film "Kukolka" ("A Little Doll"), albeit the young woman there was a gymnasist rather than an ice skater, but there are no doubt parts that have in common with the character in this one, difficult circumstances during sports, difficult circumstances in life, tragic endings and the fact that both characters were bullied and bullies as well in small parts and aspects.
And towards the end, when Tony Harding's character even becomes a female boxer, I couldn't help but be reminded of Eastwood's "Million Dollar Baby" (2004) also.
And the criminal dealings also brought to mind Scorsese as well, although given how Robbie also starred in "Wolf of Wall Street" (2013) its not too surprising.
I liked the part when "Ok, death threat is off" is yelled out while she's skating on the ice.
shareI also got a big kick out of seeing that fat guy constantly eating burgers, chips and pizzas, and then, being so stupid on a more frightening level this side of Larry Clark's "Bully" (2001), he bragged to people about his crimes and him hiring that dude to attack and break the leg of that other ice skater. He was a riot, seriously, and my mother even joked about him reminding her of me, lol. :)

I'm in no hurry to see it because I'm not really interested in the subject. Also in previews both Tonya and her mother are smoking. And it looks like her mother is smoking her cig down to the butt, which is very unhealthy. Smoking in movies irritates me.
π
There's also quite a lot of swearing and bad behaviour shown in the movie too.
share
Yeah, I got that impression too, but that doesn't bother me as much as the smoking.
π
It even has a strange and fairly disturbing scene in which a mother during a domestic argument throws a knife at her daughter (!) during dinner and injures her shoulder, and at one point of course, a thug damages a female ice skater's knee.
Plus of course, there is that fat dude who is eating burgers, chips etc practically throughout the movie.
And they *almost* did the make up and looks for Margot Robbie in the same way as the movie "Monster" (2003) did for Charlize Theron.
And if you could find that movie subtitled, I highly recommend the Russian/Soviet film "Kukolka" (1988) ("A Little Doll") a look as well, and you may indeed find some similarities between them.
Thanks, but I think I'll pass on both of those movies.
π
I can't get up for many of these "historical" flicks. I don't think I'll be checking out Tanya, Pass on the post (seen All the president's men)
Tried watching Dunkirk, stopped about 6 minutes in, I don't need another WWII flick, if I get that Itch I re-watch Patton or Private Ryan.
