Posts leftover from imdb

MC should get rid of them, they clog up the boards. There's almost no reason to reply to them because the original poster is never going to reply, unless they happen to be on MC. (I'm not sure if they get a notification or anything)
I visit a moviechat board of a film that hasn't been released within the last year and most of the posts are from imdb. It's a little annoying.

reply

I read them for movies I haven't seen or just watched.

reply

Sorry, I don't agree. Particularly in the instances of old or older films, they may be the only posts on those boards. For now, anyway.

If nothing else, they serve as a starting place for conversation. It really doesn't matter if the OP ever sees the responses or not, although sometimes it'd be nice if they could. Often enough here's a wealth of invaluable info posted by former IMDb posters that I'm very glad wasn't evaporated into the ethers due to IMDb/Amazon's vagaries, or, more likely greed.

reply

I completely agree, Cat. The OP does not matter. The thought matters. Sartre, Plato, Sun Tzu are all worm food. That does not mean that I cannot respond to their ideas. I am a scholar, and this is not an underclassman mixer.

reply

I agree with you, Cat. Replying to an old post, if nothing else, can start a new conversation with current residents of MC. It also pushes the thread on to Trending, which helps, too. I recall when MC first began, we restarted threads by replying to old ones, sometimes really old ones. It doesn't matter whether the original posters are around or not. Besides, it IS a good resource for people looking for something new-to-them to watch.

reply

Also a great resource for plot clarifications.

reply

True. They contain a lot of helpful info so why dump them?

reply

Not in the slightest.I like to read old discussions from imdb.
Reminds me of the lads from the message boards i use to read.

reply

I don't see the harm in them, you don't have to read them Hod and there are some really obscure references and astonishing trivia, as well as theories and legacies, to be found amongst those threads.

Check out the Aliens doughnut thread for some entertainment if nothing else.

reply

Meat loaf is a leftover. An intellectual property is left over. Oaf.

reply

Have you read some of these leftovers Ark?

reply

Hey hey! No need to drag Meat Loaf into this!

reply

There are enough other movie sites that don't have any archives. This one does and I consider it a plus. Even if replying to them is useless and you get no response, you can still READ the old discussions, which I mostly did anyway.

reply

Is this a troll post? The older posts are the main reason I'm here.

reply

I read them after I watch films a lot. Obviously It's not the same as imdb where you'd likely get a response if you posted on it but it's better than going to a films page and it being blank.

reply

I think that the old posts are a good thing. I'm sorry if you don't agree, but to me, they are a great conversation starter. I can't tell you the number of times that I have gone to a certain movie board where nobody but a former IMDb member posted. If I see an interesting topic that has been discussed, I am going to comment on what was said. I really don't care that the post is old or if the last person who posted is not here on MovieChat. What really matters is that I put my own thoughts out there for the people here at MovieChat to see. Once I post, that movie/celebrity is on that trending bar up on top. People may see that and reply to me. You don't believe me? I can tell you that I have started plenty of new conversations that way.
I honestly don't mind replying to people who are not here. I'm here to talk movies. If I have to reply to someone who is no longer here in order to talk to someone who is here, I am all for it!

reply

I agree. I see that old banter as good reference material which helps me to ultimately flesh out my own conclusions about a film.

It's like going fishing; sometimes you get a bite.

reply

Exactly! I always found new insight on many of the IMDb movie boards. I'm still learning..... old or new.

reply

Y'know, we don't refuse to read a book because the author is dead. You are right, as usual, Margo.

reply

Heavens no! Nor, do we refuse to listen to a great piece of music for that same reason.
