They are amazing pieces of history, and one of my favorite places to stop while on a road trip. My absolute favorite one is Coldfoot Camp, located 60 miles north of the Arctic Circle in Alaska. I was there in Dec 2015 to view the Aurora. At night the temperature dropped to a nippy 40 below zero Fahrenheit.
Btw, do you know how you can tell a native Alaskan in Winter? They're the ones who are lightly dressed, as if for a spring day.
