Strangest casting choice?

Mine: Charlton Heston playing a Mexican in "A Touch of Evil."

reply

Mickey Rooney played a Japanese man in Breakfast at Tiffany's

reply

Anthony Hopkins was supposed to be a black man in The Human Stain.

reply

Granted, I've actually met a black man with striking blue eyes before but I've always questioned the casting of James Whitmore in Black Like Me.

reply

Yes - so obvious he was wearing makeup.

reply

I don't think you get it. Of course he was. He was portraying a white man disguised as a black man. It's based on a true story.

reply

I know it was based on John Howard Griffin - my point is how could anyone be fooled by this makeup job.

reply

That was why I always questioned it.

reply

yes so we end up agreeing

reply

Richard Gere in Chicago
Toby McGuire in anything

reply

In the comedy film The Party (1968), Peter Sellers plays an Indian actor.

reply

Natalie Wood in West Side Story. She played a Puerto Rican.

reply

I guess Mexican born Ricardo Montalbán playing Khan Noonien Singh but the guy done such a great job.

reply

Sometimes it works.

Jeff Chandler played a Native American several times and was nominated for an Oscar.
He played Cochise a few times I believe.

reply

Broken Arrow I believe

reply

I think that's it.
Jimmy Stewart strikes again.

reply

Keanu Reeves in Much Ado About Nothing.
Katherine Hepburn in Dragon Seed
Johnny Depp in Lone Ranger

reply

Keanu Reeves in anything - I couldn't help it.

reply

It's very true.

reply

Good call on Depp, dewey. He was so damned bizarre in that, although I've liked him in other movies.

reply

I couldn't even get through that movie.
Shameful they couldn't have gotten a real Native American actor.

reply

It was hit and miss for me. Not the type of movie I was glued to my chair with.

reply

In the biographical film The Outsider (1961), Tony Curtis plays Ira Hayes, a U.S. Marine of Native American descent

reply

I never saw that one.

How bout Rock Hudson playing A Native American in Winchester 73.
That was really bad.

reply

However, Burt Lancaster as Jim Thorpe worked for me. But in fairness, I was an impressionable teen jock the first time I saw it.

reply

I agree with that. He also played in Apache.
It wasn't bad but they changed the ending from the book.

reply

At one time, I briefly thought Paul Newman was miscast in Hombre then realized he pulled it off perfectly.

reply

He was great in this.

reply

Agreed.
I grew to appreciate it over the years.

reply

Also, Burt Reynolds as Quint in Gunsmoke worked for me but not Steve McQueen in Nevada Smith.

reply

Way too tall. lol

reply

Among other things.

Just remembered Audrey Hepburn played a Native American who was brought up by a white family.
So we had a British actress playing this role.
The movie wasn't horrible but really?

reply

In the movie RV, the boy, played by Josh Hutchinson (age 13 at shooting), is mister 'too cool for school', he then has a big "most beautiful girl I've ever seen" moment and the girl is NOT good looking. http://media.baselineresearch.com/images/166047/166047_full.jpg

I was like "this is bizarre casting" and looked up the cast and lo and behold, it was the daughter of the director.

reply

Brad Pitt in The Devil's Own.

reply

why ??

reply

Wasn't convincing as a Northern Irishman, especially not an IRA member.

I'm also nominating Julia Roberts. Her terrible attempt at an Irish accent in Mary Reilly should already have disqualified her for her role in Michael Collins.

reply

Sean Connery never even tried to do a Russian accent in Hunt For Red October.

reply

Does he ever try to do any accent?

reply

I guess he gets immunity from everything.

reply

I went back and looked at a clip - I see your point.

reply

It works the other way too.

Michael Caine played a guy from Texas in some movie I saw.
So bad.

reply

Does he ever try to do any accent?

reply

I guess he gets immunity from everything.

reply

You give everybody a free pass, don't you?

reply

Wow, can't you feel the love tonight.

What if I do?
Just lovin the world like I should.
Besides you're the only one who gets it for free.

reply

That accent was brilliant comedy

Im not sure Pitt was in on the joke though

reply

The usual look on his face tells me he's never in on any joke.

reply

Ouch!!
Hes gonna cry if he hears that😭

reply

I don't give a shit. I doubt he does since he always seems to be high on something.

reply

Wow!
I really quite like him as an actor
Id love to know why you dont care for him if you dont mind sharing

reply

I'm just not that impressed with his acting. And I have a real problem with the way he talks, always mumbling or something. He's not that good at enunciation. I do like him a lot in Se7en, but that's probably because his character is as dumb as he is.

reply

Harsh!

I find him quite entertaining...
I prefer Leo's acting but honestly like Pitt a lot in terms of handsome, good acting guys

Of course, i aint picking a fight with you!
I know how THAT always ends😖

reply

Leo is not much different.

That's right, I said it!🤜💥

reply

Jeez...i LOVE Leo...he might be the best of his era!
Heart broken and befuddled by you as usual you pain in the neck💔

reply

Good. You also know shit about acting. Love ya!😘

reply

Hehehe😂

Love you too you pesky lady!

reply

Russell Crowe in Noah was bad on a number of fronts.
