Every prettyboy and prettygirl looks the same in the media. It doesn't reflect what the real-life population looks like - people of different shapes and sizes and all sorts of appearance variations.

You're saying "the media", but I'm pretty sure your thinking of the media of a specific nation because This is not true everywhere. In my country, the real-life population is probably more attractive on average, than those in the media.

My impression, not that I see much TV news, is that the newsreaders, um, anchors sometimes read it dramatically rather than just a straight read. And they use more extreme language, such as "slammed" instead of "criticized."

I gave up on all of it a few years ago
I used to read three newspapers a day, subscribed to The New Yorker, Newsmax, Vanity Fair, GQ and The Economist amongst others...always reading 'the news' and it frequently gave me anxiety about the state we're all in...

I can only speak for norway, but the news women here are primarily in the 3-6 range, with the rare 2s and 7s.
I don't think any the main tv-channels here have an actual policy saying something similar to " Pretty people cant be hired for a serious tv-show" But still I can't think of any.
I find this difference weird, because our tv-channels, of course, has the same goal( hold on to as many viewers as possible. so they see the commercial).
Btw, News women always wear pants here also.

I confess that I must have my nightly dose of David Muir on ABC each night, but after that, I switch over to the PBS News Hour for really good news coverage. There are a variety of people reporting the news there. They all look like your typical person on the street to me.
I disagree... Look at media folk... Presenters like Bill Maher, Rachel Maddow and such aren't exactly oil paintings 😂
The same as with TV... They're better looking, but still not so much a departure from real life... For example Game of Thrones only has 3 or 4 people who are good looking and the rest are average, just like the real world... No stunners... In terms of sitcoms and such... they're not better looking than regular folks..
Movies... Better looking than TV... But apart from Jenniffer Lawrence, Keanu Reeves and the occasional model, the people don't look much better than regular people, especially when you consider how many dorks and nerdy guys are in shows today... The difference, is that the leads will generally be fitter than the average population.. One thing to note is that there aren't as many odd looking secondary characters as there used to be because movies are very underpopulated these days... Very small cast compared to movies of the 50s and 60s... even the 80s and 90s... I think this is a big issue... when your cast is only a handful of people and you barely have extras you're not going to see many different looks once you have the pretty girl, the guu who works out and the dorks and nerdy guys... Watching older movies, you see all sorts of folks...
Hmm...interesting points, but I believe all the people you named are all thin and somewhat presentable at least.
