Is this the worst dressed generation ever?
Judging by the Super Bowl Halftime Show it is.
shareI would go with the roaring twenties.
shareI love how people dress in movies setting during The Roaring Twenties -- like "The Great Gatsby" and "The Untouchables."
shareEveryone has their preference I guess. The original Great Gatsby is great, but I wasn't crazy about the remake. I've always thought Victorian Era clothes were pretty cool.
shareIt doesn't get much worse than the Flower Power generation, Angular. The 20s had Style. Today, we have Kardashian.
shareThe combo of wearing a baseball cap backwards along with baggy jeans sagging half-way down the ass has got to be one of the worst fashion trends ever !
shareYes, and it's been around for too long. The ass-jeans thing comes from morons who want to dress like convicts do! The hat thing comes from guys who want completely to ruin the functional purpose of a baseball cap. It's a style that changed from rebellious to conformest at least 15 years ago.
shareI do believe I utilize the functionality of a ball cap far more...of course I do live in the sun so that might have something to do with it...
shareGuess I'm guilty now both...use the bill of my ball cap as an actual sun screen...when I'm facing the sun i keep the bill forward but flip it around if the sun starts beating on the back of my neck. Also if I'm sweating real hard I'll flip the bill around because perspiration soaks the bill and drips in my field of vision...very annoying! And although never loose enough to sag down to my ass crack...I do enjoy a looser fit for my trousers...no skinny jeans for me😀 But I've reached the age where I don't wear clothes as a fashion statement...I wear them because society requires me to😉
shareI thought it was hilarious when guys started wearing pants so baggy and sat so low, their crack showed. Or a good 4 inches of boxers. But what was even more hilarious was when they became so mainstream manufacturers started making baggy jeans with 4 inches of faux boxers showing above the jeans!
Humans, we are funny peoples.
How about the frayed, ripped, holey jean trend ? I saw a tv program once where the makers would achieve that look by blasting the jeans with buckshot. Some of those sell for hundreds of dollars.
shareOh yeah, talk about a stupid trend. The stonewashed jeans of the 80s were bad enough, but at least they didn't cost hundreds of dollars.
Remember the "whiskered" jeans trend of the early 2000s?
Actually, I was never aware of those. I just googled that and learned something new. I've always been just a basic Wranglers type of guy.
shareLike the artificially frayed, ripped, holey jeans trend, whiskered jeans were obscenely expensive. And usually looked really stupid to boot.
The only jeans I've ever worn that were faded, "whiskered," frayed, or ripped, came that way from either my wearing them into that state, or buying them 2nd hand.
my son went through that baggy jeans hoodie thing in high school. he outgrew it thankfully
shareMy next-door neighbor still does the baggy jeans/hoodie thing and he's well into his 40s. He dresses like a 17-year-old. He's also into those head-banger speakers mounted in the trunk of his car. They wouldn't fit through the trunk opening so he removed the back seat and tried it that way, but that was a no-go, too. He finally ended up buying a different car. I laughed at his struggles because, let's face it, a 47-year-old man, dressed like a teenager, trying to shove an oversized speaker through a car door with his butt-crack hanging out IS funny! 😂
This is the same guy who thought you could load a dishwasher into the back seat of a 2008-ish Grand Prix. 🙄
GlenEllyn is BAAACK!!!
Happy to see you. How was your trip?
Yes, I'm back! The trip was good, but dayum! It was cold! My grandkids threw me a surprise birthday party Friday evening. We had a lot of fun. My youngest grandson started really walking while I was there. Bonus. 😁 On Saturday we had another party for the new 4-year-old. I had one Mike's and I actually toasted all of my MC buddies with it! 🍻
shareHow fun! (If chilly.) A definite bonus to be there in time to see your grandson start walking. Good to know you were here in spirit, toasting us with your Mike's!
shareYou gave me quite a mental picture. lol
shareThings are pretty bad these days, fashion-wise. High-end clothes seem to have reached a peak of ugliness, discomfort, and impracticality not seen since the 1820s!
And yes I mean the 1820s.
I dunno....not really paying attention.
😎
The 80's wins hands down
share80s had flare and attitude... Yes, some of it was experimental znd pushed boundries, but they weren't the slobs you see today... Even 90s grunge was an aesthetic, a reaction to the polish and gloss of the 80s, now it's just grown ups wearing badly fitting kids clothes... Sweatpants everywhere, pyjama bottoms in public... Gym wear all day... Gross
shareGym wear worn by people who have clearly never exercised a day in their lives.
share Even though I am a guy I will comment about women's fashion from back then as a much younger man dating the opposite sex. I think most of the fashions that younger women wore were pretty good. Even if tight the jeans were flattering. Tights. Leather jackets and in more than a few cases leather pants, skirts, dresses, mini's, etc. Older women did not dress like their kids and wore sensible styles. As far as men's wear goes I was not into the Miami Vice thing but I did not find those clothes terrible. Most men's clothes were pretty good and I am a type of guy that believes different situations call for different clothes as opposed to looking like a trucker every place I went. Today a lot of people have no fashion sense and are influenced by television shows and movies that really are nothing but advertising campaigns for clothing manufacturers. Nothing new as I took a marketing class in college and many examples were shown of product placement besides the infamous example of soda pop brands.
I agree that today many people dress like crap in terms of fabric, style, cut, and fit.
Maybe I just have too many bad memories of my own fashion disasters in the 80's
share1970's. Flares and bad hair!
shareHas to be tied for the worst with today's dress sense... Although i think today is slightly worse...
The difference is, in the 70s the styles were ugly, but people made an effort, however today the styles are bland, but people's dress sense is even worse... Slobs and lack of pride together with grown ups dressing as children as well as the whole hipster thing...
Partly it's the tech industry and university inspired casual and dressed down work environments that are popular now throughout most work places and industries... Partly it's a general lack of pride and a post modern lack of appreciation for aesthetics and the importance of beauty...
It's not just the US... Even in Europe it is common now...
Our only hope is that people so overload on a fashion style that it burns out. Its happened before and will happen again. It's just basic human nature that people want distinguish themselves from others and especially rivals.
shareSeveral years ago I decided we were in trouble fashion-wise when I saw folks wearing cargo shorts and flip-flops to a church wedding. 🙄 A beach wedding? Okay, but in church?
shareI saw a guy wear a blue wife-beater, blazer and jeans to a wedding reception... Is wearing a shirt that much to ask?!
shareI have seen women dress way too sexually for church. I guess for men they hit a boundary much sooner that they will not cross versus women. Oh well, better that they are there at all than not. Some kids did not have a good role model or refused to listen when it came to clothing and what is appropriate where.
