Is it important and necessary to have friends in this day and age especially?

And if yes or no, then why?

My parents, even though they are past the age when they feel the utmost need and importance in that stuff themselves, believe that even at the age of 31, how old I am today, I need to have friends and later family and good job and whatnot, but friends is indeed important.

Do you agree?

Thanks.

Kind of, yeah. I have a few friends, but rarely see them anymore. It seems most people go there own way after school is done.

It also gets harder to make friends as you get older. Most of my friends are married with kids, so it's its hard to do activities together like in the old days.

Sure you can keep in touch via social media, but it doesn't compare to the real-life time you spend together.

I myself am a single man who lives alone. My life consists mainly of work, eat, sleep, repeat.

I really enjoy the few times I get to have with friends. I'm generally a homebody 90% of the time.

You should really cherish the good times you have with friends because it may not last forever.

It depends on what you want in life. I think people forget that friends are more than just a social commodity. Friends help you move house, get jobs, introduce you to the person/people you date and eventually marry, save you money through their jobs and connections, and so on.

But even if you're financially independent or can count on your family unconditionally, friends do something for us as a social commodity that we can't get from our family, that is not obligatory, that is validating and consoling. So I'd say yes. They are necessary, but unfortunately good ones are hard to find and keep.

There are only two things every human must know how to do in life:
work, and love.
Everything else is bonus.
You don't need to have a family, you don't need to buy a house, you don't need to get married, but you should be able to do some kind of useful work and you should be able to love. Not romantic movie love, just love for another human being. Platonic is love too.
So yes, friendship is important. If you are 31 and you still don't know how to do these 2 things, it's probably too late to learn.

What a horribly cruel thing to say.

Life is cruel, and reality is often sad. That's why people spend so much time trying to escape it.
The parents should have spent more time teaching these basic life skills when their child was a child. A 31 year old (if the OP is really that age) asking these kind of questions is odd. They are something you would understand from a preteen, but kind of shocking coming from an adult.
